Friend keeps disconnecting or remains invisible when flying in wings.

We have a wing of three. One friend keeps disconnecting or becomes invisible whenever he jumps into the same location where me and my other friend (or any of us solo) are. He either disconnects completely, or he is there but in a different instance or something and can only see our wing beacon. So we usually end up in a place as 2 + an invisible friend. Sometimes instead of staying invisible, he gets disconnected. This happens both in open and private play.

He also cannot join or disconnects whenever he receives a crew invitation. Sometimes he also sees in the chat window that a wing/crew invitation was sent, but he cannot accept it in the player tab (there is no info). Other times he can accept it and we see his wing icon, but cannot see him in game, apart from his wing beacon. We are all on friends list both on Steam and on Elite friend list.

1 year ago we were able to fly in wings perfectly fine and our hardware has not changed since. Any help would be much appreciated. All of us running windows 10 and have no problem playing other games together as the same group.

Well, most VPNs require a monthly subscription after the trial period so none of us are too excited about getting one just because Elite would somehow become playable for us.

generally issues like this can be caused by one of the players computer not getting a two way data flow. if all players look at their log file which ED created on your disk, you should need if there are any problems using uPNP… at the top of the log.

some firewalls, routers cannot support uPNP
Mine is one of them, so I have to use port forwarding on my firewall. I use port 5100 which you can set in game network options.
you also need to set a rule on your router or firewall to allow port 5100 in may case through to your computer on its static or reserved IP address.

I have had drops out X mins after starting the game around 5 mins..... and rubberbanding.... and people not appearing.

since i have enabled port forwarding it works sweet, i can stay connected indefinitly

has he tried enabling and disabling upnp on his router ect
might be worth just testing with vpn as suggested by PARA and his vital sparks of wisdom just to see if that is the case
but as this very well may be a peer to peer issue there may not be much FD can do to resolve this IE the problem is your connection to each other not FD servers

Tunnelbear is free - for the minimal data throughput that your testing would require anyway. Back in the days of yore when F D had serious instancing problems I ran the game through Tunnelbear for weeks - all free, I assume it still is. (I have a different paid VPN for watching TV channels in other countries though - I am not recommending you do that.)

I saw what you did there. :) (y)
