Friendship Drive Detected = Faceplant into keyboard

Come on seriously.
7 NPC in a row now all FSD escaped after lengthy dog fights.
my combat rating is low, why do they run?
this is a game, not real life.

yes players can flee I have no problem with that, but NPC.. Why?
i am a casual player, spend hours searching for bounties, indication them, KWS them, whittle them down and then at 20% they FSD away.

ive even had thm on 0% FSD on me.
How do they FSD away so quickly after taking so much damage to power plants, shields and etc,

Change the fleeing from combat, it's just an unwanted time sink that serves no purpose at all the except expensive repair bill and non enjoyment of game time.

got a wife and family that allows you to play for 4 hours on the weekend only? Well I do.

only skilld enemies will run away.... stay as close as possible to block their charge speed...all power to weapons...ram them if need be.

They sometimes flee because it makes them more real.
And the game aims to offer a real experience, not "just" a game.

I understand your frustration when a close to dead target bails on you and especially when it happens over and over.
But i think youll have to choose your targets more wisely, with little firepower youll have problems taking down better ships.
There are alot of easy pray around for us beginners though, and they go down quick!
I dont blame you for having reallife obligations, but the fact that you have a wife and kids is not a reason for fdev to change the design of their game.

Even if this is a game, the fact that the AI may flee from you makes the fighting alot more interesting.
At one time i had a fight that prolonged and both me and the ai was heavily damaged and ill tell you, i just sat back in a sigh of relief as i heard "surge detected" and he went away.

So hang in there and pick the easy fights, soon youll have a better ship and weapons and youll be able to take down the better enemies!

I had this initially and it is dammed frustrating. However it does pass as you get a few extra weapons / or better weapons on board your ship which I did by going back to mining for a bit

why should I pick the easy fights just because of a terrible game mechanic?
the whole excitement is battling with a challenging enemy and because you survived , and are rewarded... Not kicked in the teeth. This is a basic game fundamental.

if you try to break the most basic mould of gameplay you will serious limit revenue.
Only ED could turn the grindage into a scissor rock paper, will he stay or will he go now drama.
like I said, it offers nothing. It is an NPC, just let it kill me or I kill it Nuff said.

Usually if you target their powerplant you kill them before they reach low enough hull to run, also as others have suggested faster kill times help, try getting fixed cannons, since they're low rate high impact weapons you usually get to blow them up in the same hit that would have made them run before

Personally I like the AI to have some degree of intelligence which includes fleeing when they are confident they are not going to win.

As you get better (it appears you've been playing just a few days?), and your weapons get stronger you will find this happens less.

Okay, now you trying to speak for others.
You cant decide what this offers others, and its not up to you to decide if this is a terrible game mechanic.
It might be to you, but not to everyone.

They have tried making the npcs react in a more realistic manner, not just be target practice for the players.
Being successful in combat requires you to both outmaneuver them, and take them down quick enough or they will escape you.
As i said, this makes the fighting much more interesting and feel more real. In my opinion.

If you want stupified ai targets, do the offline combat practice.

I feel your pain, its really stupid, i got a very decently upgraded viper now and just focus down the drives immediately, makes them useless in combat due to permanent spinning + they cant frameshift anymore.

Racking those 160 k mission anacondas nicely ;-)

There is nothing wrong with an AI which will try to flee when in risk of destruction. That makes sense.

It can be tweaked however. And as has been suggested in this thread, shoot out the thrusters first and they cannot align towards the escape vector even if they spool up their frameshift drive. And if you are serious about bounty hunting, why not equip your ship with a Frameshift Wake Scanner? Then you can follow them and finish the job even if they jump away.

...and, in addition to what was said already, why not get a frameshift wake scanner and a frameshift interdictor to follow your wounded prey? Aren't this the possibilities and options that make a game rich and rewarding?

Being on the winning side of a battle where you started as the underdog and your opponent jumping out at the last minute happens. It sucks but if it places were reversed you'd be counting your blessings. Count it as a win. You get no prize except knowing you made them run. You, my friend, were the dangerous one that time!

Friendship Drive

Lol.

I actually disabled the announcement "Frameshift Drive charging" since someone else posted that it sounded like "Friendship" and then after that I couldn't hear it as anything else. I preferred the old pre-Gamma "Drive charging". I wish FD would revert it to that.

Still, a "Friendship Drive" could be useful: you're at a party, you overhear an interesting conversation and think "I'd have a lot in common with that guy, I should go and talk to him" - FRIENDSHIP DRIVE CHARGING |||||||||||||

;)

Yep, equip the jump scanner and the FSD interdictor, use a ship with a decent jump range (eagle is a good starter, cobra for later) and chase em down. It's actually pretty good fun, hope they don't tone it down too much because of all the incessant whining going on because people don't want to equip their ships for eventualities.

I have no problem with ships trying to run away. What I do have a problem with is how they are able to jump after being reduced to 0% hull. As far as I'm concerned 0% hull should mean total ship failure. Though it would be epic to see a ship explode INTO super cruise :p Just a bunch of chunks flung faster than light out to the void

Yeah, an explosion looking like particle collisions!
