Friendship Drive Detected = Faceplant into keyboard

I have no problem with ships trying to run away. What I do have a problem with is how they are able to jump after being reduced to 0% hull. As far as I'm concerned 0% hull should mean total ship failure. Though it would be epic to see a ship explode INTO super cruise :p Just a bunch of chunks flung faster than light out to the void

Either that or watch the frameshift drive blow through the front of the ship leaving the husk floating in space.

This is the kind of thing that actually makes the game more challenging. I needs to stay that way. The only problem is when they jump a 0% health, but I really don't think this is intended..

target their thrusters, they can't run then ;)

Yes they can. I've had a NPC with 0% drives charge his FSD and jet off before. Normally they just float around, but for some reason this one Cobra was able to get away with totally destroyed drives. Not sure what that was all about, hasn't happened again since that one time.

I've had ships jump with one of these:
0% Hull
0% FSD
0% Drives

What I love is the Anaconda stays at full speed with the drives at 0%. Happened twice now.

Lol.
I actually disabled the announcement "Frameshift Drive charging" since someone else posted that it sounded like "Friendship" and then after that I couldn't hear it as anything else. I preferred the old pre-Gamma "Drive charging". I wish FD would revert it to that.

This. Ever since I saw someone say 'it now sounds like 'friendship drive' I cant get that out of my head. #-I-r-r-i-t-a-t-i-n-g-! :)

I kind of feel like the exact opposite of OP. I was just thinking today while bounty hunting how unrealistic it was that these NPC's were fighting me right to the last, even when they had no hope of winning. I would much prefer it if ALL enemy ships started trying to run at about 30-40% hull left, and maybe even more if they haven't even taken down your shields yet. That would be much more realistic and challenging and would better mimic human players.

get weapons = kill enemy quicker.

see its all a thing of accomplisment, if NPC would only be there to be slaughtered, why have them in the first place?

No they can't. That's my favourite hunting tactic when I'm targeting big ships that I know I can't bring down faster than they can run away. It works. Destroy their drives - which involves shooting them a little even after they're at 0%. People make the mistake of assuming just because the percentage is at zero, the component is gone. The UI is rounding numbers down. Case in point, the guy who had ships escape with 0% FSD. A destroyed FSD destroys the ship immediately, just like the power core.

Destroy their drives and watch them spin helplessly, never able to align to the escape vector.

You can also blow out their life support... then wait out of range. :D

Perhaps go a step futher, the greater your ranking over them the better the chance they will run at a lower damage level.

YOU Harmless THEM Elite = Fight to the death
YOU Elite THEM Harmless = Run at first hull damage

They actually do that. People had been interdicted, only to have the would be pirate spew some threats, then start crying and run away. Without a single fired shot. Hilarious! :D

Fire at FSD when shields are down. Firing at Drive will only work if your destroy it. Damage given to FSD prevents it from charging (no need to destroy it).

This thread and many like it are somewhat ridiculous. What's with people whining about things that are too hard and presenting it like they're the voice of the majority of players? This isn't a console game or some RPG where your moves are scripted and you just have to tap X or Y to start some flashy neck breaking combo. E: D is a space sim that thankfully brings back a bit of the effort required to succeed like the games of old.

Get in there, grind it out, chase them down, maybe develop some skills and tactics to counter whatever you find that you're up against repeatedly.
