Frontier at E3. Big announcement soon?

E3 announcement:

President Halsey was assasinated while on her tour of the frontier worlds, Due to the lack of a vice president, shadow president Hudson assumed control, however several major federation worlds contested Hudson's legitimacy to the position of president.

With federation forces in temporary disarray, Senator Patreus launched several unprovoked attacks across the Empire/federation border intent on seizing border systems from federation control
Federation demands that imperial forces withdraw back across the border by 09.00 GMT have had no reply, nor have imperial forces withdrawn from federation space.
with the result , as of 11.00 GMT, a state of war exists between the federation and the empire.

My guess too. Reckon landing on planets.

They wouldn't give landing on planets without First person walking around.

In my opinion, Just giving landing on planets is boring, Unless they also allow us to get out of our ships and explore alien life or the barren frozen iceworlds or jungle worlds.

Going from current game to > FPS is easier than going from Current game to >Landing on planets than FPS

Imagine the amount of gameplay that can be intermediately added, For example, First person boarding mechanics, Shipboard activities, Missions to join any of the 3 major powers or minor powers in their Army, as a space marine etc.

For Ship to Ship boarding mechanics, you and your friends could team up, the captain launches boarding pods to which your friends are actually inside, you physically see from different points of view as you enter the enemy ship and thus the FPS element of the game can be shown this way.

For Ship Board activities might include maintenance and repair and healing of crew with medbay stations, This would also solve what happens to your character if you die with a "cloning station" with "Quantum Concious Transmission" So when you die your suit sends an FTL transmission of your conciousness to a clone of your self onboard your ship in a Clone Bay. (essentially respawn, Yet can be interesting if you need "ammo")

Scientific analysis and very interesting exploration, you can physically man scanner equipment used to find the Chemical Composition of planets and moons and if they have alien life.

I just think it would make way more sense to do the human aspect of the game before we tackle the vast expanse of planets and cities.

I, too, guess it's the announcement of the first major/paid expansion. Usually, it takes about six month from announcement to launch and this fits nicely to an add-on approximately one year after the initial launch of the base game.

I do expect it to cover walking around in our ships. As others have stated, leaving the pilot's chair is necessary for every other "EVA" experience and - as far as I know - the ships interiors are already modeled (and existing in the game, but simply not accessible).
Walking space stations migth be part of this add-on as well, as I imagine those "technical stuff" easier to do than believable planet surfaces (especilly with other than lifeless planets, which will be the first to be introduced, as we all know).

I can't really see this happening ever in ED. Landing on planets is like docking at space stations but with nicer landscapes. I'd love to have the spaceport glass domes of the old games back. But: for now I can't see what a smooth transistion from interplanetary flight to atmospheric flight would even look like, given the current game mechanics.

I expect "all-exciting" stuff like visual damage as pay-to-play content.

Nah, A range of plastic kitset models. (This started out as a joke, then I thought of how freaking awesome that would be.)

Yeah, I'm also hoping for teasers for the first expansion.

If the modles were snap on modles I'd buy some for me birthday.

I think it would be wise to announce planetary landings DLC and provide some video/concept art for it, even though the DLC would be a year away. E3 is one of the biggest events out there, and it would make much sense marketing-wise for FD and Microsoft to ride the procedural generation hype and counter the PS4 / No Man's Sky. Realistic planets on Xbox one/ED vs the cartoony ones in PS4/No Man's Sky.

It's curious that we've only seen one piece of concept art on planetary landings so far. Either FD has been working on planetary landing DLC for a while now and are waiting for the right moment to show it to public or they are still years away and there is still nothing to show for it..

Out of curiosity, why would they do planetary landings before bringing in FPS/Walking around? Seems backwards to me, especially if they want us to be able to explore planets...otherwise we just have new places to land our ships and that's it. You'd be paying for an expansion of "more things to look at" rather than "more things to interact with"

Just seems backwards in thinking. Space stations are already there, I'd assume they have a decent amount of the interiors worked out or conceptualized by now, so why add more stations rather than improving on what's already there? Would make sense to expand the game further in depth (fps, more immersion) and then bring in planetary landings afterwards.
