some posters in this thread

What do a space communist and a anti-federalist, socialist, regulated free marketer have in common? :D

Internet access :D

Well, I went to bed pretty miserable after breaking the stick-twist torsion spring in my Saitek X-52... but reading the various subsequent posts in this thread has cheered me up no end. :)

It's amazing how far some honest communication and banter will go towards smoothing ruffled feathers, haha.

Also, I read posts elsewhere, where newer pilot arrivals were really thrilled and excited to get hold of their country flag - something to put on the poor, emasculated old Viper Mk III. If I begrudged them that happy feeling for something that's a couple of quid, I'd totally feel like Ebenezer Scrooge! :D

I'm only going to put my Aussie Flag on a Viper each Australia Day, by the way. It's a bogan thing (for those familiar with high Antipodean culture).

And...

Hurray. An honest answer that's not beating around the bush (or where the cat is not circling around the hot porridge as they say in Finland ^^). Thanks, that's all I ask for.

Cheers!

Now I've heard everything!

why do people even accept this online MMO F2P type microtransaction bull?

and how is 13€ for a damn SKIN texture "micro" anyway? This is insane pricing and I expect that

EVERY
SINGLE
SKIN

will be available to buy in the universe with ingame credits as per the Kickstarter FAQ, just as this graphic came up on reddit stating clearly that everything will be available, in game, buyable with ingame credits.

so please let me know which space stations are selling these and what the credits prices are. thanks

I'm completely disenchanted by this too. Aside from anything else the cutoff dates unfairly favour players with disposable income here and now. I'd buy skins with real money if there were no alternatives, but i'm too skint most of the time and by the time i had the dosh the offer's likely to have been closed. Hardly democratic is it? Gameworlds are supposed to be meritocracies, anyway - isn't that the whole point?

Ultimately though your right; everything in-game should be purchasable with in-game currency.

From a marketing standpoint, it was stupid on the part of FD to make something as desireable as present day flag skins part of a limited edition. There are SO many players out there that would probably like to buy their countries flag as a skin. They should have come up with some specialized but unique cool skins and released those as Limited Edition and saved the flag skins for general availability. Doing what they did, they shot themselves in the foot profit wise. That said, Limited Edition is Limited Edition. They have admitted their mistake and promised not to do it going forward. So let's move on. You can't see them in game anyway, except at the outfitting screen, so for now it is really kind of a moot point.

The store is broken anyway some show up with a -50% and some not? I thought this lasts until Dec1?

Also I'd like to know where to get this stuff in game with credits

Except that it was only for the Viper. FD can go completely flag-crazy on every other ship if they want...

They'll be coming down on Monday and we have no plans to run the Viper flags again.

I like the "flag" skins, you should run them again.

Everyone knows that the true meaning of "limited" is - "we would like you to get excited and buy it now, please".
Don't cater to the dunces who think "limited" means "will never be sold again".

Plus what's the point of having nice skins like that which will hardly ever be seen by anybody? It's hard enough to find another player character at all!

I just read the kickstarter terms that apply to the Elite Dangerous campaign: https://www.kickstarter.com/terms-of-use/oct2012

Nowhere in there does it say anything about a Project Creator being required to deliver everything listed in it's project proposal/description/design spec/whatever. It only states that a Project Creator is required to deliver it's Rewards or provide a refund to those affected if it finds it is unable to provide a particular Reward.

Designs for a product yet to be developed always change. That is a given.

I bet the same people who generate silly complaints here then go to StarCitizen page and buy "Limited time" pictures of spacecraft for ridiculous amount of money then come back and pour this nonsense all over this forum.

f#%$# yea got my 'Merica! flag for $2.50 still @ 9:10pm central 'merica time.. hope when walking around comes out i can get a "antique sol" fried chicken netted back baseball trucker cap. and wife beater with "authentic antique" yellow pit stains.

i call it the gankasaurus (well will be when game becomes live and persistant, wont try hard if there is still wipes), tho i wish they had one for the empire special ship, as that is my goal to achieve

They also said they were interested in doing cash for credits but have backtracked on that nice little money earner after we went absolutely ape about it.

Whether we like it or not. THEY HAVE TO MAKE MONEY. And I'm far cooler about them doing that via cosmetics (NOT BEING AVAILABLE IN GAME) in exchange for NO PAY TO WIN.

Went back on promise of cash for credits (ultimately pay to win). Decided to make money via cosmetics.

I can live with that.

Indeed. In the larger scheme of things I agree. I do object to all stuff like this being put behind a paywall, and I'd like to see some cosmetics earnt in game but as you say, things like this is a small price to pay for no pay to win.

Since they chucked a few freebie paintjobs our way I bought the Gold Viper one and a couple of other skins. Hopefully one day I'll be able to make cool looking machima with them. :) In the meantime, I'm looking forward to people being blinded by the sun reflecting of my gold ship whilst I drill them full of holes. :D

And whilst I think about it. 'Available for a limited time only' doesn't mean its never going to be available again. Lets take the Cobra wireframe paint job - took me a week to calm down after that with the main grievance, aside from it being my idea in the first place, was the limited time to buy. Are we really saying that no one else can ever own such an iconic skin? Be nice to see it up for grabs again, say anniversary time next year.. ;)

I hadn't realised they'd changed the USA skin to have the correct five-pointed stars. And swapped the red and white stripes, which makes it look better still for some inexplicable reason. If FD are going to keep these on sale they should really redo the thumbnail in the store. I'm sure the six-pointed stars are still putting off some potential buyers. The one on the store page still looks cheap and cheesy, whereas the one in the game (if flags are your thing) looks pretty good.

You think offline was bad? They put that up for sale again it'll be civil war in the streets! And the streets of cambridge will run red, the colour of christmas jumper dyes.

That's the thing this same debate raged on the "other site" about limited by time, limited by qty not being the same as "once only never to be repeated" - except over there it was about multi hundred dollar virtual spaceships and the grey market - not two bob cosmetic items that have no real money re-sale value (legitimate or otherwise) once bought.

As always everyone had their own interpretations as to what limited actually means..

Normally "limited" means: "Limited to the number of people that buy them". :) After sales slow down they may discontinue them in time for the next set of skins they will market on a "limited" basis. It's the standard business model for those kind of things and practiced by just about every business that sells "limited edition" products.

This thread... seriously...

When skins were first released, it was obvious that they were part of the business model. Re-releasing 'limited' skins over a sale period was always going to happen. As for the prices, you paid what was asked at the time to own them at the time. There was debate then about price yet many people disregarded that and stated that they were happy to help Frontier and saw store purchases as a route to backing the game. Now the same people are here complaining about price.

What is next - KS backers complaining that they paid 10x rrp when december rolls round?

Just enjoy the game already and stop taking every business decision made by Frontier so personally.
