Frontier: Can you please define your understanding of "Limited"

Yup, looks like the flag skins are still there (though could just be a slow update on the store).

Over a month after this and they are still there!

It's put me off buying the £10 "limited" Cobra chrome skin for sure. I'm holding off on the others too until I feel more like it - I may pick up a pirate skin or two but I'm not rushing to buy them.

Mmmm Chrome Cobra, i has one, all I need is some flags and gold skins for my Cobra/Asp and FerDeLance when it comes out.

Thank you Frontier. :D

Deliberate misquote with "limited" there or misunderstanding?

Both the Viper gold and Cobra chrome skins say they're "from a limited series of glorious metallic designs". Neither says anything about limited time or limited quantity.

If you're wanting exclusivity move on.

Really, the only value proposition for you is if you like the look of a skin enough to pay the money for it. That includes all the considerations of wanting to see it and not currently except by other players or in outfitting, but it does NOT include *financial* worth. You can't resell it. It won't accumulate value over time. It's just if you like the look - or the sentimentality in the case of the wireframe Cobra - enough to pay for it.

Disregarding all the usual complaining each way...

If the item says it's only available for a Limited time, by UK law there's actually regulation that prevents you then selling it generally afterward as misrepresentation of sale in order to encourage sales, and I quote:
"likely to materially distort the economic behaviour of the average consumer in regards to the product."

So for those saying 'it's fair game, it'll make Frontier more money, which means more expansions' - No, not if it gets totally legitimate legal action taken against them in response.
Personally, I couldn't care less - But Frontier, despite their size, need to be aware others might, and if they have thrown around binding terms like 'Limited Time Offer', manipulating these can have serious repercussions.

Hey,

I, like Commander Titus, would also like to know how Frontier defines 'limited'. I do buy limited items for the exclusivity that the term implies to me.

If Frontier will offer these 'limited' items for sale again and again during limited time periods, they are not exclusive. I would like to know if this is the case.

Cheers,

Good thing it doesn't say it's Limited in quantity or time then. I.E They provide no metric on what it's limited by, so it can be anything, such as 'number of decimal places of Pi we could be bothered to compute' or 'How dumb on a scale of 1 to 1 billion do we think this guy is that doesn't understand this concept?'

E: In fact, it says....

"from a limited series of glorious metallic designs"

So there will be a limited number of designs (totally true), not a limited volume of them available. tl;dr Your complaint is nonsense.

In that case "exclusive" might have been a better choice of word, but I see your point. But if you do check the OP you'll see they did use the words "limited time only" which is why I'm suspicious. They've been rather fast and loose with the use of the word - https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=65881

Maybe check the OP, cast your mind back to when these skins were supposed to be Alpha/Beta exclusive - then 2 months later resold at 1/2 the price of their "limited time offer" (which they even forgot to remove as part of the Black Friday sale as seen above)

If that's truly the case then the Viper Chrome skin would also be on sale, would it not?

My concern is that they sell this as "limited" now then have a sale later in the year and sell it as not limited and 1/2 the cost again - like they have already done.

I realise you haven't been around for as long as I have on here and haven't seen the things some of us old timers have.

I think the only skin that was ever truly limited was the stars-and-stripes one with six-pointed stars.
I'd love to meet one in the game and screenshot it.

AFAIK it was replaced with the correct skin (since they are just local files on your PC you can view them all) - there is only one USA flag

Hang on, first....

What is a Straw Man?, for five thousand please Bob!

Okay, now we've got that out of the way - The example given in the OP was the Stars & Stripes Viper, which, as I described above, states it is 'Available for a limited time'. This is a specific term, and carries implications. As described above, this can get Frontier into trouble bandying terms around like this, if they are not adhered to.

YOUR example I quoted, on the other hand, used the Chrome Cobra skin, which does not use this term.

Thanks again! <3

How cute, a Goon threw a link to a fallacy explanation on a forum.

Yes, which is exactly what happened. Frontier did apologies that it wouldn't happen again and I do hope so.

You are correct. I've purchased every skin up to this point. All I was stating is based on the previous actions of Frontier I'm not willing to part with £43 like I may have in the past for all the new skins, least the £10 for this skin. I don't see the value in doing it since Frontier already stated the Viper flag skins would be remove (https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=65881&p=1106945&viewfull=1#post1106945) yet they haven't been. I have little faith in believing it won't be up later this year at £5.

On 27/11/2014, 3:15 PM:

Hi everyone,
...

They'll be coming down on Monday and we have no plans to run the Viper flags again. We're keeping a close eye on what deals have gone out before to avoid any confrontation going forward.

Cheers.

Thanks again! <3

No, thank you

If you will come barging into the forums please do keep up dear.

Ahh perfect - show the actual evidence where Frontier said they would stop selling the Viper flag skins on the 1st December - yet haven't - and the forum combatant runs away.

This forum PvP is easy :D

I just live in fear the limited edition wireframe appears on the market again.
