Frontier, consoles now need full keyboard support.

Thanks! That's what I guessed too. Even turn on turn off should be doable with the same combo, aye?
I would think so, yes.

I didn't get a chance to check last night as I totally forgot it was Halloween. Forum Dad here had trick or treating duties. I'll check tonight.

I'm using an Xbox controller to play the beta and it works fine. They used an Xbox controller on the livestream to show it off as well. I didnt have to map anything. People using sticks have had to binds things, but seriously I don't see what all the fuss is about.

Just to clarify, the Xbox controller is mapped really good, so don't worry about it. Sticks I don't know as I dont have any for my PC or Xbox to test.

I am using a wired 360 controller as well, what ever control option I select either Default context or Controller I am unable to;

- switch mode
- enter FSS
- open discovery

because the keys assigned to the functions are on the keyboard and not the controller. So not that well mapped I would say, and I know some of the functions can be accessed via the right panel, before anyone points that little fact out ;)

But it's a mute point now anyway as I got a small update to the beta this morning and now when I start the game it just crashes to the desktop.

Official keyboard and mouse support will come very soon to Xbox One. Microsoft will possibly announce the date (with the first games that support it) on november 10-11, at the X018 event in Mexico. After it arrives developers will have the option to include full keyboard and mouse support in their games. So you'll have to talk to Frontier on this one.

My game launcher has been stuck on 'preparing for update' for half an hour...so I guess I won't be testing anything today either [rolleyes]

Damn, that sucks.

I just set to default context and all was good. I changed a few things to my liking, thats all. I've done it a few times just to make sure and for me atleast, default context works great.

I just use the HOTAS...since once entering FSS mode, it's almost like switching to the galaxy map, the HOTAS works the same in there. I use the stick for navigation, one of the hats for zoom in/out, a rotary on the X56 for the tuning and primary fire button to target selected blue blob thing on the FSS scanner.

I have the same custom binds as I always had, I only needed to select which control inputs did what to my own preference...a bit like setting the external camera controls but with less buttons.

Keyboard/mouse is "officially" not supported yet, Microsoft did confirmed that it will come, so we don't have to talk to Microsoft anymore, just wait...

In WarThunders case its probably more a fortunate bug then a design decision. ( I don't argue its awesome, since, i use it alot)

As soon as Microsoft fully officially supports Keyboard / mouse officially, i have no doubt Frontier will look into it.

It's only a matter of time.

But then agian, I dont need it, my HOTAS configuration can do it all, and with 3.3 I tent to use my right systems panel more as well.

And, how many buttons do you need the system/Galaxy map?

While in map mode, i still have the majority of my buttons empty, dunno what ur talking about.

Yep. And just like the Hotas and other accessories, it'll depend on the game developer to implement KB/mouse support in their game for it to work. Hopefully Frontier jumps on board when that happens, but I enjoy my Hotas and XB controller for now.

OK, finally checked it out. Plugged in XBox HOTAS to the laptop and after a few minutes of nothing working, remembered to toggle the PC/XBox switch in the back. Doh!

Was able to bind everything to the HOTAS in the FSS no problems. Pitch and yaw to the stick, scan to twist. Zoom in and out to primary and secondary fire, or the hat, or the vertical thrusters, too. Lots of options...all worked and functioned just like they do in the system map. No worries.

I've just gone and forked out for an X One X bundle with Forza and that certain cowboy game that I've been living through YouTube vids [rolleyes]

You just know that in 6 months, R* will announce the PC version, don't you?

Ah well, there'll be a cheap X One X and game package for sale when they inevitably do...

I dunno what the fuss is about either. I use my Xbox One Elite controller and it works like a charm. I noted down my custom keybindings (well, I mostly got them in my head already), set the controls to 'default context' to load the bindings of the new inputs, edited the bindings I noted down (which are only a few) and bam, I can do everything I want to.

About the 268 total bindings, you don't have to set every single one of them, many of those can be toggled via the cockpit panels like galaxy or system map. If you run out of single button presses, just use the contextual menu that pops up when holding down Y, X, B or A and set any other button to it that feels right to you. It's that easy.

I've done this every time new bindings were added and never had any problem.

Keyboard and mouse support is currently in the Alpha ring of the Xbox preview program.

Do you think these new features in the PC Beta were not designed with the Xbox and PlayStation controllers using them?

It's still gonna' suck compared to the vastly higher number of buttons that PC gamers have by grace of their keyboard.

It's not only the keyboard inputs...as you know we have 56 button HOTAS rigs with 3 mode switches, Voice Attack, 18 button gaming mice (mouses), Logitech G13 gamepads...which we can all use simultaneously and bind inputs or macros to each device.

Saying that, there's purely mouse/keyboard E-D players complaining about running out of keybinds over in DD due to the new scanners/HUD requirements....personally, I've no idea how anyone on a PC can run out of input options, but there you go.

Conversely, there are guys that run default control settings on PC using purely an Xbox controller who don't have any issues at all...so all this fuss is, in the main, caused by folks running custom keybinds...like most of us... irrelevant of platform and trying to guess what buttons they have left.

Bind FSS to Y+down
Honk to right trigger
Yaw and pitch to left stick
Scan to right stick
Exit fss to b

Took me all of thirty seconds and works wonderfully.

I really don't know what all the fuss is about.

That's reassuring.

I think it was Obsidian Ant who said in one of his vids that it should be quite easy for console players to bind the fss/dss to the controller buttons, easier then those using a Hotas.

Works just as easy with HOTAS as with the controller.
