As to the "goodies" received, it was a well put together pack by Frontier (yes they sent me one, and I will talk about it in a video). Not sure what I will do with the pack yet though, I've taken the lid off the box and looked inside, but that's as far is it got.
The "content creators program" that Frontier have set up, isn't entirely anything unusual. It's a case of Frontier giving out information to video makers / streamers, so that these people have accurate info. Exactly the same as Frontier do for the gaming press (Eurogamer, PCGamer etc - (in fact those guys actually get more info)).
I've joined the program, but under the condition that I will continue to make videos with my own opinion which will be both positive and negative towards the game. There's a lot of things I like about Elite, and a lot I don't like. There's a lot of things I like about how Frontier develop the game, and there's a lot of areas where they make very stupid mistakes. I've pointed those things out, and will continue to do so. I've always been clear about that. And I've never claimed to be unbiased. I do try to be balanced and reasonable though.
I've spoken to Frontier about all of this before even joining - making all of that very clear. Because if that wasn't acceptable to them, then I wouldn't be in. Frontier have zero control over the content produced by people involved in this program, and there isn't even any requirements to actually even bother making
any content. Mostly, it's a case of passing on information, and improving communications. And yes, Frontier gain PR from that - which is a large part of why they are doing it.
For me though, it's about getting more info, so that I can share it. It will help with video production times, just the same as when Eurogamer (or which ever other website) get early info helps them write articles on time. Frontier are far from the only company doing this.
For me, it really is as simple as that.
