CQC Frontier, if you want Arena to succeed, you need to implement it into the main game

The way CQC/Arena was implemented was mediocre at best. It was as if it were a completely different game, in fact it was sold as a separate game until recently. It's a shame because CQC is so much fun when there's enough people for a match. So, how can we revive CQC?

-Implement it into the game! Nobody wants to log out to the main menu, then wait for Arena to load, and then wait for a match. Let us queue while we're playing! If I'm trading superconductors or running missions, I can queue while I do my stuff, and the moment the match is ready I can just join it, as if I logged out to the main menu and went to the arena. CMDR Jovian Hull photoshopped an excellent implementation of Arena in the 2.3 UI (Reddit thread, pic, forum thread)

-Increase the rewards! Make the prize some rare material, like Core Dynamics Composites, and make it have an impact in the BGS! By this I mean: At a station, you choose a faction, and you join a match in the name of that faction. If you win, your faction gets more fans in that system (aka it gets influence).

-Add support for CQC Community Goals! Nothing would increase the player base of this mode like CGs!

Biggest things they could do, in my opinion, is allow creation of private matches and ability to fill empty spots with AI. Period. Couldn't care whether they integrate it into the game or not really.

Bots would definitely be the great addition, but I'm assuming they'll take more dev time to develop. I hope we see them eventually though.

I entirely agree, I said right at the start that CQC should have existed as a series of arenas within the main game and you should have to fly to them in game to participate there could even be 'soft' arenas around the more civilised systems and some no holds barred ones out on the frontier worlds.

On top of that there could be non-combat tournaments, races and the like and they should be advertised in the in-game bulletin boards for good measure

I do not like the idea of having to travel to locations in order to do CQC. There is alot of explorers playing cqc actually, so I don't think this solution would be motivating for them.

The way squads work in arena today is actually a good solution of how queuing should work. When you get invited to squads, and accept that invitation, you actually get pulled from the main game and instantly put into the arena mode. Queuing should work in the same way. Once a lobby is ready, you just need to accept the "invitation", and then be pulled from the main game into the arena lobby that is ready.

Yea, I really don't see the obstacle to introduce a similar system for CQC as they did for Multicrew. Well actually I see one: FD is behind their schedule :p Maybe after 2.4, keeping my fingers crossed.

Gosh no please don't. I can't think of anything worse. Not to mention the level of potential exploits it opens up.

I agree that perhaps it should be more 'game related' such as fighter only PVP, Sidewinder only, Anaconda Only or 'Free for all any ship type' and so on - certainly more options but please keep it separate and distinct from the 'game'.

Think of the Open game as the 'campaign' and the CQC as the 'deathmatch arena' and you are more aligned with other existing offline / online games but don't try and mix one with the other.

I agree, it looks like they gave up on it. Maybe we will see it in game though. It would be a great addition.

I'd like to be able to play it from any station services menu or travel in game to various locations to watch the games.

You don't see how this could be exploited by a dedicated team of friends? I can...

Jeez everything is exploitable for you guys nowadays. That's like saying missions are exploitable, or that driving your SRV is exploitable.

All too true I am afraid. Just listen to Sandy on the Livestreams - they often talk about 'good player ideas' but the issue comes into implementation without allowing one set or group of payers to gain an unfair exploitable advantage. One of the issues Sandy has talked a lot about around 2.3 (and even before) is issues around PowerPlay and how they can weed out the intentional 5th columnist saboteurs. What we don't hear about so much, and for good reason is where the current 'exploits' in the game are and how FDev are fixing those - behind the scenes. So called 'balancing'. If you look closely at the patch update notes you can ocassionally glean what exploits been fixed - but only after its been fixed.

Sadly, like all endeavours you need to consider how the dynamic could be abused so that you know how to STOP it from being abused in the first place. I moderated an online server for a couple of years and I can tell ya, we had to spend most of our time dampening down exploits.

BTW there have been mission exploits shut down over the years.

Yup, CQC is great fun when it's working and easily accessible.

The majority of the playerbase play ELITE, not CQC and having it as a separate menu function is a serious drawback since it detracts from the main game and makes it LESS accessible since it's not PART of the universe and lore when put OUTSIDE of the main game.

Adding it to the station menu would help a lot.

- Add it to station menu [Arcade]
- Arcade menu then has the following options:
- [CQC]
- [BBR] (Buckyball Racing because we NEED a virtual racing league with a nice track selection)
- [SRV] SRV racing and CQC just like CQC and BBR (Because we need this too)
- Add option to choose Ping, Location and Range as options to find players
-- Ping: Obvious
-- Location: EU / NA etc...
-- Range: Range in LY of other players
-- Add players REGARDLESS of SOLO/OPEN to ensure a viable player amount
