Frontier Launcher slow with update

Hello CMDRS,
Since my return a few days ago I've experienced a very slow and unresponsive launcher when updating.
While reinstalling I thought, hmm maybe bad timing or some other issue with a fresh install.

Currently I'am trying to update to 19.02, but the launcher is just sitting there saying:
"preparing for update"
All other options are greyed out.

Since when did updating with frontier launcher so frustrating?
Should I start using steam?
Anyone else experiencing the same?

No issues here using Steam and I have a wind up internet connection (still waiting on that promised hamster upgrade).
If you have the luxury, I'd use Steam.

I haven't been able to get the launcher to work well enough to log in since today's update. Been through all the recommended fixes, up to and including a clean install. Holiday weekend, unable to play, pretty frustrating.

Always takes a while for me before it starts updating. Couldn't tell you why, but it always works in the end. I just factor that into its operation now.

Epic games update works, Launcher Update stuck on 0%

Epic games updated fine, the launcher starts and tells me to update after I have logged in with Epic. It is now stuck on 0%. Anyone any tips? The support forums have nothing

Eventually it started and while it did I also noticed the same time Win Defender went into overdrive, taking 30% of my cpu while downloading.
No clue if those two are connected or incidental.

Yesterday this thing happend:
Was returning in a dropship from on foot combat and BAM pc restarted out of nowhere.
The windows log said: possible power outage as reason for restart, it was so weird, never experienced this before.
Now, when I restarted the launcher I had to update again.

I suspect they are. Make an exception in Windows Defender for the game installation folder and see if that speeds things up.
