Frontier need a Elite Dangerous Concept Artist (Vehicle & Weapon Specialist)

Please be a space tank, please, please....

First iteration of space legs? Sandro did say in a livestream a while ago that he did like the idea of legged vehicles. Gentle reminder... :)

One thing that worries me about this:

Are they only just getting around to hiring someone to do this job?

:x

I dimly recall something about the guy who did most of the concept art for alpha and beta either being on contract or leaving FDev soon after the game released. It's entirely possible that FDev only now has used up all the guy's designs (which would explain the very slow trickle of new ships), and so they're looking for someone to make new concepts.

I was suspicious at first... this sounded like one of those kind of threads I was going to have to reply to with "Well show us your portfolio then", but it wasn't. It was just a job post repost.

If I didn't love what I do already, and was able to take my considerable arsenal with me, and England wasn't a socialist nation, I might consider this... but I do love what I do, they'd never allow me to import more than 100 handguns and rifles, and it is a socialist nation, which just doesn't sit well with my own personal values. Nice place to visit, but I wouldn't want to live there.

Will you burst into flames if you walk into an NHS hospital?

Just a reminder, ED isn't FD's only franchise.

Did you read the job description?

"Elite Dangerous brings the player a vast host of ships and weaponry which must not only follow the iconic styling already in place but also broaden the Elite visual canon ready for technological developments coming our way in the near future."

"While the role is initially focused on Elite Dangerous we fully expect the successful candidate to utilise their keen concept skills on the breadth Frontier’s diverse and growing catalogue of games."

That would certainly be encouraging, if so, because it implies a long-term effort beyond 'Beyond.'

But there's also the concept art of the alternative SRVs .... so I wonder if they have abandoned those and are rethinking their design .... including damage .... which could imply planetary surface combat. But I'm getting ahead on wishful thinking here.

It's encouraging, all the same.

Also a chance opening for all the forum contributors who say "If I was designing for FD, I would ....." [big grin]

The new shock cannon looks pretty good. That said, I would not mind an art pass over everything. As I wrote in an earlier post, we all have much better graphics hardware these days...

I'm mostly talking about medium multicannons, they look ridiculous for 3304. There are few other older weapons too. Newer and new weapons look pretty good I think.

What's wrong with the cannons?

There's a show on Amazon Prime called "Expanse" about space travel and it uses some builds I find interesting. They use rail guns, multicannons and such (and a nuke tbh). The builds are no-nonsense because let's be honest, if you're traveling across basically empty space, you don't need to look like a jet fighter. You need to have utility and maneuverability.

If someone else has seen the show, you know what I mean. The Mormons are building a huge space ship, largest in the galaxy I suppose.

That show is amazing and I recommend everyone here watch it. Hard sci-fi with a pretty good plot involving interplanetary politics, evil megacorps and a whole lot of inspiration from the classics. If you have prime the first season is free, the second is well worth the price and the third is coming out in June.

Bonus turreted multicannons!
