Engineers Frontier needs to make finding materials much easier

Okay. If you can't find it - you're looking in the wrong place. The commonest materials are dropped when ships die, so you can find them by hanging around places where ships die a lot in a ship that isn't carrying a lot of cargo. Collection limpets help here (they're not just for Miners, you know!).
Other places you might get stuff?
Searching planets - fly over them at about 5km until you find the red "anomoly" circle. Fly roughly into the middle of it, land, deploy SRV - see what you get on the wave scanner. Usually something interesting with a decent reward. Be aware that certain classes of surface threats are a bit more real now. Like Golliaths are actually a bit dangerous, and air defence cannons are just plain nasty!
Missions - Have a look at the rewards for missions. As well as financial a lot - effectively - barter with you by offering payment, or part payment, in materials. Have a think where the stuff you want comes from? - Is it likely that a farming community would be offering you cracked firmware? - or would you expect that in a high-tech world?
See what bribes you're offered to drop missions you're doing for other factions. Usually pre-2.1 they were rubbish. Now they're often quite good, and frequently trying a non-fiscal bribe.
Lastly. I don't know about this.... But Elite has always been very good at offering you stuff when you need it, despite the chances of stumbling random across it in a universe being very, very small. I'd try pinning the blueprint you're trying to fullfull and see if the spawn rate (including mission rewards) for the materials on it go up once the game knows your intentions ( pure speculation on my part, but would make sense).

The problem isnt that materials are hard to get, the problem is the combination of SOME materials are hard to get, you dont have enough inventory space AND you need commodities as well, that means flying around with a hold full of stuff, that leads to pirate interdiction.
I'm now at a point where the i cant get the upgrades I want because every single one of them has one thing i cant seem to find anywhere. My inventories are filling up and the constant interdictions are driving me crazy.

I have no problem with interdictions, no problem with npc pirates trying to get the crap i need to carry around, BUT i have a serious problem with the risk / reward situation.
FDevs upped the risk of fighting NPCs again, and I'm all for that, its way more fun, but seriously, if you raise the risk, you should also raise the reward, especially if you force players to constantly carry around random stuff.

And another thing: Devs should know that if you put an RNG mechanic (say: beacon-scan gives specialised legacy firmware) behind a RNG mechanic (say: emission USS spawns a beacon) behind another RNG mechanic (say USS spawn is an emission USS), you get some seriously funky numbers and some seriosly frustrated "unlucky" players with full inventories and cargoholds that cant do nothing but fight off interdiction after interdiction for hours after hours, just to get one minor upgrade.

Its not that every single problem is game breaking, its that, for some people, the small problems are stacking up to a point where the combination of them are breaking the (fun) game.

TL;DR
- Too much stuff / too little space
- sometimes too many layers of RNG
- constant interdictions leading to extremely high risk for a laughable low reward
=> combines to frustratingly time consuming and exhausting gameplay

Material trading between players is something that is needed IMHO. And I'm not talking about dumping them into space.
Just look, almost nothing changed in player interaction with 2.1.

I've dropped into tons of signal sources and scanned the private beacons and I have yet to get 1 specialized legacy firmware. This is pretty ridiculous.

NPC interdictions are crazy, one item in my hold that cost 67 credits and it's like open season. Messages about that "big haul" and getting interdicted by the same ship seconds after I jump out.

You might have to do some combat to find components quicker, head to an anarchy system and you can find a lot of things quick

FD should know... im starting to Hate how easly we shay should to everyone.. WE, PLAYERS, should know and should understand, A) engineers is not something you need to do now, or makes you stop playing normally to get the upgrades: it is not an end goal, B) material and upgrades requiere time and effort, as rewards for non-lazy players (casuals or not).

we should, not they.

you should know that you did that, not the game.

No, this is the long awaited new content and it's mind numbingly bad.
One week in and we are seeing how poor this is and yes I do think the content should at least be tried out but I don't think that taking a week to find arsenic (a common material allegedly) is good fun.
To begin with the AI really has compelled players to upgrade there ships to stay competitive, essentially people are being forced to changing their play style and run around gathering stuff, constant interdictions, compromise your loadout for cargo space, hours on hours in the SRV or USS, looking for elusive parts.
To finish of we have the insult of the RNG on your engineer item which can turn many hours of effort into a totally useless item.

This is the reality of 2.1, 6 months waiting for this and they have quite frankly ruined the game.

As I said....

Finding stuff is easy, provided you look in the right place...

Looking for arsenic?

Well. It's a non-metal mineral... Now. There would you find that naturally occurring (hint: not on a metallic or ice asteroid...)

I played "normally" until my inventory was almost full, and i thought to myself, why not craft some upgrades, to have some upgrades and get rid of some of this stuff and now, here I am ;)

But you're right, and I'm really sorry that I dont play this game the way you feel is "right" ;)

I was having a hard time finding chemical manipulaters, but read the description and said found on cargo ships, went to anarchy killed the first t9 and t7 and had them.

I know some are available as mission rewards and some you can just buy from the right station. Look at the stickied post in this section for helpful websites and check out the spreadsheet, I was able to just buy one of the components for the lvl5 FSD upgrade.

it is not my "right" way to play the game. I also felt frustrated when I tried to find the dungeon entrance and gear for my elf character in a game called: F1 Codemasters.

I dont think so, but I respect your opinion.

You're doing it wrong!

Lol

I'm not joking. Stop and think - where would you expect to find it? If you haven't after an hour or so, go somewhere else and try a different approach.

Bottom line I just don't have huge amounts of time to play. I managed around 20 hours since 2.1 dropped but I took some holidays so back to the usual 4-5 hours a week.
Current build has exploded the grind in this game.

PS I did find Arsenic eventually 4 pieces last night, common piece I don't think so.
