Frontier, Please Make Odyssey Good

Dear Frontier Dev. Please don't make the same mistake as CD Projekt Red and Focus Home Interactive. Both game developers enticed me into a pre-order this year and both have released their games in a horrendous state. Because of these experiences, I won't pre-order your game but may buy it if initial reviews are good. If it's a buggy mess, and your base game kinda already is, I won't be buying it at all.

Here's your latest warning:
Cyberpunk 2077: Sony pulls game from PlayStation while Xbox offers refunds

I humbly suggest you go ahead and announce a delay until 3rd quarter 2021 and schedule an extra round of testing and bug fixing.
Just get it out there while the news cycle is demanding game developers do better.

This isn't anything against Odyssey, but it doesn't have the insane scope and marketing force behind it like Cyberpunk did. Still unsure if Odyssey will end up being another "season of expansions" like Horizons, but I expect it will continue to be expanded on for just as long as Horizons was.

Btw, what was the Focus Home Interactive game you pre-ordered this year?

Wow, Cyberpunk 2077 must be pretty bad for Sony and Microsoft to pull it. Glad I didn't jump on that hype train (not that I was going to).

EDIT: added a few words

I'm hoping for the best for Odyssey. That said, I've stated before, no sane person buys 1.0 software. I'll wait until everyone else finds the bugs not found during the beta test (which is where they're supposed to be found) and once the first patch is out, THEN I'll get it.

FD knows what's expected by their customer-base. They don't intend to disappoint, and I'm certain that after the first patch comes out the dust will settle and we'll be screaming for the next update of "medium pressure" atmospheric landings. I'll be one of them.

How are people finding these bugs in Elite? It runs generally very well for me all the time.

Likewise, I just do not get problems.

I honestly don't think I have classed anything as a buggy mess since, erm, Hidden And Dangerous on the PC (back in 1999)

Odyssey's pre-alpha footage is pretty conservative, to be fair. Comparatively 2077's teasers really pushed the boat out, then promptly sank.

this is goingto be a quite a bit OT

well if you have powerful enough system, then Cyberpunk 2077 runs pretty well, but if you have low performance systems, like the previous gen consoles, then you are in a heap of issues.

So instead of making realistic promising and realising that they where to optimistic how well it could run on these low performance and up the requirements and to actually work on the other noticeably issues they have. I find it pretty amusing how cars stops on green light and keeps driving on red! or how cars just instantly spawns infront of you on what you a split second ago saw was an empty road... or the game randomly locks you out of being able to use your powers (hacking) or using your weapons, which basically make it impossible to handle a fight. But did expect this game to be filled with all sorts of bugs, as witcher 3 was, and all the Bethesda games had, because the nature of these sorts of games are very complex.

But the environment is gorgeous to explore, especially if you are into the Cyberpunk genre.

So I expected CD Project to be less corporate jerks because of how they have the behaved before, as they often have been a pretty descent in their behaviour towards gamers, they gave us GOG, a game store that promotes no DRM for example! And just the fact they have investors talking about suing them, is quite telling on why Cyberpunk 2077 got to become this train wreck we see today, because not releasing on the previous gen consoles would have diminished the number of potential sales, and thus make the investors unhappy about how much money they can expect to get shortterm on their investment... this very simplified, but investors are there for one reason only, and that is to make a profit. they do not care about reputation towards customers etc, they are there to make profit. that is their number priority, That is also why all the other big game companies have become such anti consumer companies with loot boxes and micro transaction in pay to play games...

as for the Odyssey content, I rather have a very low expectations and be pleasantly surprised that they delivered beyond those expectations, instead of being super-hyped about what all this could mean, and then realise what we got was nowhere near what I got hyped about. We should all be familiar with the other space game, No Man's Sky and how that launch was... I do hope that FDev do not try to hype things that they can't deliver on, and instead keep it realistic and true.

And a good reference on what to expect, look at what we got in Horizon when it came to planetary stuff. have that as a starting point, and you are less likely to be disappointed on what Odyssey will give us.

What I mostly hope from Odyssey, is an updated game client that would make it easier for FDev to add new things to game, so that wqe can do multicrew and let people use SRV's, for example! or why not let our NPC pilots drive the SRV? they can fly the SLF... and much better netcode to deal with SLF issues and that we could be 4 people in a wing but only 3 people in multicvrew, and no mix/match between the two etc.
