And that's either Star Wars (13th December 2017) or Jurassic World (June 7th 2018)

Nothing else seems to fit their portfolio.

Or there is not even a movie coming out to relate to it.

EDIT: With the new DLC's and these are Universal trademarks we can wipe Star Wars of the list and leave Jurrassic World there.

Is the DLC they just released all Universal Studios properties? If so, I'm wondering if that might be a hint as to what studio they are taking on this franchise from? It could maybe narrow down the possibilities anyways.

Besides the next Jurassic Park flick, there's also the recent Universal Monsters series, Minions 2, Fast & Furious 9 and 10 and another How To Train Your Dragon. JP, F&F or the Universal Monsters all might lend themselves well to gaming.

Or...it could be a completely different studio and have nothing to do with any of these films...

If it is Jurassic Park/World based, then Frontier already has my money. I have spent way too many hours on the FB/mobile game. All I ask is that dimetrodon be properly classified as a synapsid and not a dinosaur.

this does not sound exciting, a movie franchised game?? I was hoping they would make Planet Safari as an expansion to PC after they made a bunch more add-ons for PC, we haven't even gotten water slides yet [ugh]

I have been to the frontier studios as part of the coasterhead meet and greet and i can confirm that the guys who work at PlanCo are not the guys that work on Elite Dangerous - and I bet it will be the same for the new title. In fact there are some devs who work cross game but most likely they are seperated. But thats how game development works. Don't worry they won't abandon PlanCo as soon as they start working on a thrid IP

lol, I've changed my mind since originally writing that I'm actually more excited recently because I have a feeling Frontier is going to be doing something CGI related which might be really interesting. If there is one gaming developer that deserves to be part of the movie industry, its probably Frontier! I just hope that whatever they do is actually good, as most game-movie cross-overs are flops [up] I think though, if Frontier teamed up with pixar they could do something really cool

That Frontier press release for their third game SERIES (so likely a single game that's expandable or maybe multiple games sharing a theme) describes it as an "enduring franchise of global renown.", so I'd take it as a series of films that have been around long enough to be considered 'enduring', and so have remained popular over time. They also said "It is creatively stimulating, already has a high worldwide profile, and is a perfect match for our expertise.", so look at the types of games Frontier has done to date.

Well as far as wishlists go...

Jurassic park would be pretty cool as a large expansion... (Lots of Dinosaur animatronics, a tracked car ride based on the one from the first movie... Jungle foliage, Mr.DNA videos for our video screens...)

Ghost Busters could be an entertaining large expansion too, aside from having an Ecto 1 prop, I probably wouldn't have any themed items in it, but it would come with a new "Guest/vandal" type, as well as a new employee type... (Namely I'd have it work as a planet Coaster/Ghostbusters crossover, where real* ghosts start haunting your park(Chasing guests around the park, riding rides for free, and preventing your mechanics from fixing things) This is where the Ghostbusters themselves come in, as the new employee type you hire to bust those pesky ghosts, because who else are you gonna call? (*real within the context of planet coaster anyways... )

Yes, true, but Universal is smart enough to have the commercial rights and make sure they can do whatever they want with that.

(Otherwise there wouldn't be any themed area's about these movies in their parks).

JK Rowling and Michael Crichton will just receive a fee according to whatever contract they signed.

Typically when a studio licenses an IP to make a movie/TV series they also have the right to sub-license pretty much anything based upon their own personal adaptation of that IP, it's a package deal.

There have been cases where movie/TV rights have been negotiated separately resulting in two games coming out at around the same time. Dune had two games come out in 2001, one from the movie license, the other from the SciFi TV mini series license.

BTW Universal doesn't own the movie rights to Harry Potter, Warner Brothers do. They struck a deal with Warner Brothers to have a themed area in their Universal Studios park. If the game were based upon a movie adaptation of Harry Potter Frontier would have to do a deal with Warner Brothers, not Universal.

Pirates of the Caribbean is a good shout, the problem with licensed games is stuff like mods is a big no-no. You need to have enough material to keep players interested in a the long run. Making a good single player focused game (my preference) is commercial suicide these days.

I am struggling to come up with a franchise which is suitable, Jurassic Park idea is a good one, but too similar to Planet Coaster would make a brilliant DLC though. I would love frontier to remake X-Wing/T Fighter as a PC exclusive ie VR and HOTAS support but that will never happen as they will be a multi-format approach.

Jurassic Park could be done more of the lines of the new monster hunter game, a massive world where you hunt down dinosaurs.

I recently found out that Battlestar Galatica rights are held by Universal. There was talk last year that a new movie was in the pipeline. The themes within Caprica/BSG's themes becoming reality, it could do extremely well.
