Frontier the game is PC user unfriendly

Frontier what have we PC players done to you?

The game is so PC user unfriendly, I haven't experienced anything like it for a long time.
For weeks we have been pointing out that the UI and controls are not unfriendly for PC users.

Basic things are simply missing;
  • Delete right-click when building roller coasters / tracks etc.
  • When you are in the construction menu, you can no longer move freely around the map with W/D/S. It was possible with Plantcoaster1/Zoo.
  • scrolling at the edge of the screen, I don't understand that at all. Why this wasn't programmed?
  • The menu is far too convoluted.

If you read through the game reviews on Steam, one of the main criticisms is that the UI and controls are only geared towards console, and is therefore not recommended by PC users. Which I think is a real shame, because the game has too much potential.

As a PC user, it's really frustrating to struggle with the controls, you can't get used to them.
Please let employees work on the UI and controls who know how the PC controls work.

Why a multitude of changes have been made I will never understand. Due to how long all of us play this game due to the detail involved even for the causual player we all have muscle memory when it comes to the controls in the game and its all been shot apart. I have managed to do a little key remapping but yeah why is this aimed at people with a console when it started on PC for us all those years ago

Between the UI and the path tool I am at a loss. I loved PC1, been playing the series since alpha, and RCT before that. Not sure why they thought to prioritize the consoles… l have a few days to decide if I can refund through steam. Watching the forums and hoping fir an answer from the Devs..but the silence seems to be the answer. I hope I am wrong.

I felt like that with the path tool, but it's honestly incredible once you get to grips with it. You do have to switch between tools when doing paths and queues, but it's worth it because they turn out amazing in the end. Just dedicate a few hours to only learning paths.

The UI/UX is unforgivable though.

A great example of really really poor UI, is the pathing options.

If you want to change the style of path, you need to choose the type of path, guest/queue/staff, from a small tab under the + larger tab, then select the larger paint palette tab above it. The order of tabs is actually backwards.

There’s so many nested windows that backing out of them to switch between pathing to terrain or to scenery for example, is painful, you have to back out multiple clicks then delve into the next one multiple clicks, then back out multiple clicks and back into the first one again with multiple clicks.

I might have to claim for a new mouse from frontier soon.

And that damn “custom/blueprints” click is utterly infuriating, followed by several unclear catagory icons.

Made a similar post earlier this week (release day) even tagging frontier, to hopefully get a response.
It's just strange that they even considered changing UI/UX that was relatively good in the first game.
I would understand for console, but even if you would use a controller for PC or play on console it would still be an annoying an frustrating UI.

Also the fact they place (game) blueprints first and custom building behind another click/button...
It's as though they don't want us to create amazing buildings, coaster, parks, etc. like we did in PC1 or zoo's in PZ.
-> I like the ability to hide blueprints in Planet Zoo a lot for example.

Same goes for plenty of other menus with way to many tabs hiding settings, or deconstruction in them.
Even worse given we indeed lost our delete right click, but also our delete button short-cut for easy deleting larger/longer paths.

It's clunky and cumbersome to build anything, slowing down the building process we had in PC1 by A LOT, not to mention the extra wrist pain by all the clicks!

What I find most concerning is the lack of communication. I understand that the dev is typically quiet about new releases and such, but with PC 1 we had a forum for bug reports, a community manager, and there was allot of follow up to concerns. With PC2 its crickets, which further alienates me as a customer. Would be nice for the devs to at least acknowledge our concerns.

Yes, I remember the times with Bo as community manager with almost weekly streams where concerns and suggestion received some answers and acknowledgement. If not on the streams, an answer could often be found here on the forums, twitter or reddit.

It's simply sad to see so much good work they did on PC1 to not be used or be present in PC2; even worse that now they probably have to do triple the work.
They made UI for PC1, remade UI for PC2 and the community asking to redo and make it more like PC1 and PZ.
It's an illogical decision in my opinion, they had all our suggestion, concerns, do's and don'ts from PC1 and PZ, WHY change them, right?!

From a developer and designer point of view, I know UI isn't easily changed, but as you say, some acknowledgement would be welcome, especially just after release.

I dont agree....control, UI are better than PC1, I just love it. Palying on PC with mouse and keyboard.
Great work guyz!!
It's definately not better what are you even talking about? No right click to remove something like a path. Lower and Raise path is by default bound to U and J for some reason instead of PGUP and PGDOWN

I dont know how this got past final quality control because I think there has been 0 quality control for the PC version and it really is not a step forward when you have to go through extra steps to remove a path so how is this better exactly unless you like to spend more time doing simple things like pathing? Not to mention how difficult it is to build slopes and stairs for pathing and the standard width for path and queues are also annoying

U and J were already standard controls for raising path in previous game you know.

The UI is awful. It just simply is. I am not sure I can add anything to what has been said above except a big flashing THIS.

They were? I cant remember changing them ever and it was always page up or down or just drag it up or down which doesnt work now either
