Witcher 3. Fantastic game best in genre for a decade at least and sets the bar very high for rpg games.

The one take away for FD here. CDProjekt delivered in every way that they said they would no bull, no false hype, no flashy videos that didn't represent anything the released product. They...just...delivered.

Why cant elite be more like Witcher 3.
Witcher 3 is so fantastic, I played it a solid 50 hours while elite only about 10 times that.
If elite gave me more rewards for doing stuff then that could be as good as witcher 3.
If witcher 3 had spaceships I would never play elite again.

Hmm, you may want to check up on that one - there was a huge deal made about the final game graphics looking significantly worse than some videos they showed off several years back... Would link some articles but at was all over gaming news sites right when the game came out so shouldn't be hard to find.

EDIT: Asp Explorer found it. Though, personally I think the graphics are phenomenal as they are (on PC at least).

Yeah, Witcher 3 is such a great game, loads of fun. I've decided to have a few days off from S̶p̶a̶c̶e̶ ̶R̶i̶s̶k̶:̶ ̶M̶o̶s̶t̶l̶y̶ ̶H̶a̶r̶m̶l̶e̶s̶s̶ Elite: Dangerous until a few patches have made some sense of the current mess so I have been playing it most of the day and it does amaze me just how much content they managed to cram in, and that's before the stack of free DLC thrown in. Best RPG for a years.

If Frontier had $67 million to spend on development and had come up with a heavily scripted 200 hour single player space adventure with cut-scenes and mouse controlled single player action then you wouldn't be on this forum complaining about it.

That game wouldn't be called Elite either.

I think that folk look to online games as very long term experiences and that has to be evolved over the life time of the product.

thats just the shaders.
its quite common for studios to tone them down at release to make the game run on lesser machines or prevent people from melting their machines by accident.
often you can re-enable them in the cfg files or use things like ENB or sweetfx to up the graphics again if you got a powerful machine.

I don't get it. witcher isn't a space sim. it looks pretty, but ... why the comparison?
Better comparison is sc or eve. or even a defunct game like star wars galaxies -- which IMHO was superior to ED in just about every way (except for the fact that it only had about ten systems). Still such a shame they cancelled that game.. I miss my super x-wing

I still want to like Elite, really I do. You've made a fantastic engine, superb graphics and sounds - all this adds to the immersion. But then the feeling is broken when the rest of the game feels like a progress bar simulator. A simulator which doesn't respect my time as a player. Long shield recharge even at stations... rep decay... lowered profits for bounty hunting with increased risks. I guess there's some hope in exploration...

What? Oh, you mean "honk and slurp" simulator?

Seriously, I won't be playing Witcher 3 for some time yet, as I've got to finish Far Cry 4 right now. And then there is Just Cause 3, Fallout 4... Lot's of good stuff coming to the openworld scene soon. There's also Dishonoured 2 rumours popping up... So I think quite honestly, ED is just going to get relegated to the occasional pick-up-and-play for a bit of RES fun for me now.

LOL, yes, the ubiquitous industry standard of "bullshots"... Honestly, I roll my eyes everytime I see the internet blow up on every new release that doesn't compare to its demo. We've had so many now. What with some of the biggerst "hits" in the last few years: Watch_Dogs, Aliens: Colonial Marines, Far Cry 3, and countless more... Yet people still look forward to E3...

well i can't speak for everyone in this thread, but personally i think its interesting to compare games from a game development perspective.
it is irrelevant then that the games belongs to different genres and only the work that is being done behind the desk that is important.

and from a game development perspective i think its hard to compare Eve and Elite whit each other.
Eve has been developed in so many stages and under such long time and maintained by its subscription model, so i think we would have to strip off quite allot from it to make a valid comparison to the development of Elite, and then we would end up whit a 2003 title that would barely fit todays gaming standard.

i totally missed out on SWG so can't say much about it.

I simply found it horribly uninteresting, and the PS4 version looked rubbish compared to the footage I had seen a few years ago. Just my own opinion of course, I am sure that many people find it a wonderful game - it's just not to my taste.

After reading your comments the only conclusions i can reach are:

1) You are one of the world's only blind video game enthusiasts.
2) Your PC is older than God's dog.
3) You are lying to generate a reaction, and in fact haven't played the Witcher 3

At 34 years of age, after gaming from the age of 6, and being owner of both console and high spec gaming PC, i can honestly say that Witcher 3 is one of the best games i have ever played in my life. In fact i think its one of the best games ever made. Its my personal belief that if you don't like the Witcher 3, you should seek immediate help.

The ultimate sign of insanity, would be someone saying that ED is a better game than the Witcher 3. I love ED, but there is just no comparison, and to be fair they are totally different games.

Except the amount of content crammed into the Witcher 3 boggles the mind. Actual content. Not mindless, repeated missions - like you get in Assassins Creed or similar games or the missions you get in ED. This is one of the things that's worth looking into, when it comes to value for money.

Another is the plethora of extras you get with the Witcher, compared to the nothingness you get with ED, where you need to buy everything separate, including freaking ship paint-jobs!

Witcher 3 doesn't have to maintain servers. Unlike Elite Dangerous.

Witcher 3 from all reports is a good game but completely different from elite and if you tired to do hand crafted missions in elite all you would end up with a very small selection of missions. Not that Frontier mission generator at the moment isn't fantastic, it needs a lot of work done on it. In frontier tried to do it Witcher 3 style you would up with something like sto.

Your conclusions are your own, and I'm not going to argue with any of them. I honestly thought it was a bad game, which is why I sold it. Currently I'm playing ED and Planescape Torment at the same time
