Its basically the same game. Not fussed about Planet Coaster, but Jurrasic World Evolution would be very cool in VR!![]()
My problems with VR are that I can't eat, drink and smoke. I don't notice if someone enters the room and I can't talk to my wife and family. It's also uncomfortable. Most people I know have similar issues, so I'd guess it will stay niche regardless what games are released or how much the hardware improves.I'd argue that we're well past the "very early days for VR": even the current iteration of the technology is several years old. The very early years were 2013-2014, when the only customers yet were those who managed to get the Rift development kits. But the commercial launch of the Rift was a bit over three years ago, which in IT is quite some time.
VR seems here to stay (for a while, at least), but it is still a niche. As you said, the hardware is far too expensive for mainstream usage, but there's also that there aren't many mainstream games for it either. This is just anecdote, but I know a few people who said that they would like to buy a VR helmet, if there were AAA games designed for them. So it's an issue not just of hardware, but of software as well.
This is just talking about games (so, entertainment), mind.

I just want to say, most of the issues you mention are at least mitigated by the Chaperone system- assuming you turn it on- because then you can see the real world without having to take off the headset. Also the Chaperone system can be set to be as obtrusive or unobtrusive as you like, from simple monochrome outlines of whatever's in the room (including people) to a full color display, so it can set it to your preferred annoyance level. My problems with VR are that I can't eat, drink and smoke.
