This is my installation of Microsoft Flight Simulator, a whopping 173 GB without all the world data, as almost all of the planet is still rendered in the cloud. I can just imagine how large the files would need to be for an offline working copy of the galaxy. The pure data file Frontier use for just the naming and positioning of stars, settlements, and starports in the milky way is more than 80GB on its own.Yea. And we would not be in trouble if they had hold there word and gave us an offline mode.
It only took a decade for that little indicator on the launcher to show something else than the default text, but better late than never.Well at least the log-in screen is finally stating SERVER DOWN FOR MAINTENANCE in bright beautiful red letters.
He's been answering for 10 pages, you just had to read them heheheThank you for responding.
Ah, yes. You know the planets are generated? Yes? What do you think? that everytime you jump to a new system 10 GB are downloaded to your computer in 3 seconds? Its ok. You are right. Again how can i be so ignorant. Oh and Starship Simulator is not real. Same as... all the galaxy simulators on steam... Holy. I really hope they get this servers up and running soon. This is my installation of Microsoft Flight Simulator, a whopping 173 GB without all the world data, as almost all of the planet is still rendered in the cloud. Each planet in ED is only generated once, that's how you can go back to the same spot later and the geography will be the same. This data isn't stored locally, it's pulled from the cloud temporarily when you're in hyperspace. That's why there's sometimes a pause before jumping out of FSD. It won't be anywhere near 10GB but when there's billions of stars already discovered, it's still an enormous amount of data.Ah, yes. You know the planets are generated? Yes? DCS?Got 436 GB for DCS![]()
Yeah but the planets in Elite are just Spheres with a Normal map and texture applied to them. Each planet in ED is only generated once, that's how you can go back to the same spot later and the geography will be the same. You are confusing ED with SC.Each planet in ED is only generated once, that's how you can go back to the same spot later and the geography will be the same. On the contrary. You can bring it down to one word. Money. And a bit longer explanation would include the word copy protection.Don't fight, having to explain why ED can't be played offline is as absurd as trying to put the ocean in a glass.
I was stuck on this screen with a Corolis station spinning in the void.
It actually wouldn't be that difficult for the legacy versions of the game at all to be playable offline. On the contrary. You can bring it down to one word. Money. And a bit longer explanation would include the word copy protection.
In fairness, Frontier DO provide a fully offline version of Elite. It's sitting in everybody's account right nowDon't fight, having to explain why ED can't be played offline is as absurd as trying to put the ocean in a glass.
