Frontiers Servers down?

You're right. Too many people don't care about anyone else but them.
Social media didn't make that better. (Almost) everyone is just in their own bubble and either ignores or hates everything outside of it.
Off topic: I don't like voice messages. People are using them because their time is too precious to type. Problem is, when I want to get to the relevant information in a voice message I need to listen to the entire 1:30 minute thing. In written form it just takes me a glance. So apparently my time is not so precious. And there are only very few people who get this.

So we have a Thursday thing happening. No Game, That's okay if we knew in advance, as to connect to other Games. Me! Tiberian sun at the moment. An hour 45 minutes.
Looks like another mission about to happen. LOL nearly Died in that game. o7 to all CMDRS out there and a Happy day off the Grind. LOL just joking. I love Elite Dangerous.

I still cannot remeber a single instance since Odyssey when server maintenance has even come close to the estimated time. Those estimates are cleary outdated and are no longer feasible so just say 2 hours instead of 40 minutes, so people doin't waste their time staring at your launcher for an hour and a half. I'll give Frontier the benefit of the doubt if they did some server side fixes that address literally any of the crap that's surfaced since update 19.

The only thing "ascending" this update is the amount of game breaking bugs and exploits, jump times for both normal ships and carriers and the frequency of disconnects and error codes.

To name a few major bugs and issues off the top of my head:
  • Flickering shadows still not fixed (added with update 18, top voted issue all through update 18, never fixed, not mentioned in U19 patch notes, still present in game as of 13/11/24)
  • Shadows underneath ships on planetary surfaces are still broken (this was claimed to be fixed by update 18 but instead just added the even worse flickering shadows bug that still persists)
  • The menu used to transfer odyssey assets, goods and data to and from fleet carriers is COMPLETELY broken, totally unusable, full stop. If you are extremely lucky you may be able to transfer a single item before you just get "the selected resource is no longer available" and you cannot transfer anything to or from your carrier. Yes the bartender is turned off and is not selling or buying anything, no my capacity is not full, yes I've tried everything to fix this.
  • Mandalay thrust vectoring is completely reveresed and makes no physical sense. This is what tells me the people who develop this do not play the game whatsoever.
  • Mandalay thrust plumes are mirrored, and appear through the lower front of the ships hull in the case of the main engines, and the plumes exit the rear of the vectoring thrusters through solid ship geometry (especially visible when landing gear are deployed and the vectoring thrusters have plumes aimed towards the ground, which is normal, but also plumes coming out of the top, which is a major error). Like how was this not instantly caught, its so obvious (see images). And you charge money for this.
  • You cannot buy or sell items from fleet carrier bartenders due to a "transaction error". This is a seperate issue to the material transfer menu. Bartender upkeep reimbursement when?
  • The broken galaxy map filters (bruh, do you even have a QA team these days?). Change its operation back to how it was before U19, where you click to confirm application of a filter instead of auto applying when we mouse over it and taking it away when we dare try to click a system.
  • The broken powerplay galaxy filter. No one likes having to reselect their power for the tenth time during a single galaxy map visit.
  • The data port exploit

I could go on all day but I think the point I'm trying to make is clear:
Myself and many others are hardly impressed by update 19. Dissapointed even. As soon as I scrolled down to the bug fixes section in the U19 patch notes and saw how short it was I knew this was gonna be a rough update, especially considering the fact we all knew the update would come with its own set of bugs. The lack of any mentioning of flickering shadows did anger me after players have been screaming about if for most of the year now. It makes all that time and effort Frontier's visual team does useless, because players are too busy suffering a seizure to appreciate the graphics, and those that are not can't see anything and think they are at some underground rave.

Frontier. Spend 6 months or even a whole year just addressing all these bugs. And please just declare server maintencance times to be 2 hours long instead of this unrealistic 40 minutes that is never achieved.View attachment 408407View attachment 408408
You missed the UI issue that becomes more apparent.
Check out the Mamba, go do a jump and then switch to the Mandalay and do a jump.
A ui overlay being doubled usually mean more resources are being used and not terminated properly (memory leak incoming)

Game was peak then. Since then the FSD has been burned out by bad WD overcharge. Should go back and make better navigation decisions.
Rose coloured glasses are amazing, but I remember what the game was like years and years ago, and even through the glasses, I am very aware it was not good then, for many many reasons. The latest update is rough, but has potential. And I hope Frontier continue with this new trend of adding more value and options for people to engage with.

Oh no they will react, I'm expecting some sort of forum warning or shadow ban for daring to criticise their immaculate, perfect game and their top tier management of it.

Crazy to me how a business will stick it to its customers by ignoring their continous pleas for long requested/promised features, comprehensive bug fixes and meaningful content and then turn around at the end of the fiscal year and wonder why their revenue isn't as high as they'd like it to be. Make it make sense. Really not that hard Frontier, give us what we want and you may see this game generate more revenue. Continue to burden us with the responsibilities of your non-existent QA team and then ban people from forums and communities because they dare to air their valid criticisms and long held frustrations and just end up going bankrupt. Because lets be honest, all those expensive IP licenses you brought to develop games for didn't really amount to nothing did they, probably because of the exact same reasons elite is faltering - you simply don't listen to what your customers want. I am sure you've heard to phrase "the customer is always right". For the purpose of generating profit, this is true. Give us what we have been asking for and we will pay. Do the opposite and fiscally suffer. Its your choice.

Nice. GMT will experience changes to DST, so it's not the same as UTC.

GMT doesn't get daylight savings changes. It is a timezone that never skips forwards or backwards, always the same time as UTC. It's used all year round by some African coutnries like Gambia and Mali, presumably because their sunny latitude doesn't have enough seasonal daylight variation to warrant a switch.

Countries like UK (Europe/London timezone) or Ireland (Europe/Dublin) use GMT in the winter and switch to their own daylight savings time (BST for UK, IST for Ireland) in summer.

This pedantry resistance failure brought to you by ED server downtime overspill.

How good are time zones, said absolutely no one.

Fun (or not) Fact since Pedantry was mentioned: Actually Ireland doesn't strictly use GMT in the Winter and add an hour in the Summer - they use UTC + 1 in the Summer, and SUBTRACT an hour for the Winter.

Functionally for all humans its the same as GMT and BST, but they arrived at their totally unique system through various historical anomalies, and probably a few Leprechauns and more than a few pints of Guinness.

See https://danq.me/2021/05/11/ireland-timezone/ if you feel like wasting some time and finding out more.
