Frozen Effect on Silent Running / Cool Running - Where's it gone??

It might just be me here...but I have switched off all modules and enabled silent running. And I get no freezing effect on the canopy...

What's up with that?

I got it recently but can't remember how I did it, I think I turned EVERYTHING off and engaged silent running, but maybe not... I remember it wasn't just silent running I did. Maybe I turned off thrusters? Can't remember.

I did turn off all modules, including thrusters and engaged silent running. That used to be enough.

I will try it with a heat sink as well...

Silent running keeps all the heat inside, not make you run cool.

If you turn all your modules off except life support and fire a heat sink you should see it. Or just wait a bit, don't use silent running.

I didn't have to fire off a heat sink, never fit the things. But yeah I did get my temperature down. Only life support was turned on. Oh oh, maybe I DIDN'T turn on silent running. That tends to build heat in your ship...

PS. Ninja'd.

Silent running never made you ice up, it increased the internal temperature
To ice up you need to get the internal temp ~8 which can be achieved by powering down

D'oh! Of course!! :D

Just found that out myself too...thanks guys. :D

(Feeling a little dumb now...it's been a long time since I used any of this - around Beta I think):eek:

silent running does the opposite of running cold, it just prevents heat from escaping, you want to do the opposite of silent running. Turn off all systems and wait, it will happen.

This is another graphical downgrade though, in alpha the ice effects used to look like ice effects, now it looks like cob webs.

I think it did work as you say in Alpha and/or early Beta. Then they must have realised it made no sense and made it work the way it does now. Which means you're far less likely to run into the effect, but it does make more sense.

Silent running never caused the icing effect. You could get the effect WHILE silent running, but the icing has always been tied to temperature.
