Frustration Diagnosis

Dav mentioned specifically on the live stream the other night that they are very confident they can cope with numbers on release. Servers automatically spin up to cope with load. I am guessing the Salome event was partly to see how things would go on PS4 launch.

Maybe, they'll shut down the pc and xbox feeds so we ps4's can download and install ours.

I seem to remember that the first time we saw Horizons running on XB1 was the night before it was deployed. There was a similar low-key build up from Frontier, with very little revealed.

In fact there were many salty and pessimistic posts at the time, saying that the XB1 was incapable of running Horizons, hence the silence from Frontier - way off the mark as it turned out.

In Holland we have a saying: No news is good news. I hang onto that, although I'm starving to see some PS4 footage. I'm confident the PS4 version will be fine, otherwise they wouldn't have given a launch date. I'm quite sure there will be a pro version as well.

I can cut them some slack for not commenting further on the XBox One X - it was just announced, and the console itself won't be in stores until November. The irony is that we know more about how ED on XBox One X than we do about PS4 / PS4 Pro. That math just don't add up.

Gully, I appreciate the comment. This may sound crazy, but if Ed Lewis (or any rep from FDev) had posted your comment word-for-word, I think we might all feel more reassured, but until that happens.....

Brits don't brag, but they do "carry on" a tetch ;)
But I am a far too modest Canadian to mention that.

Sony are famous for keeping their game plans close to the chest. M$ leak stuff to make sales forecasts from the reaction of the impatient ones.
Wait until you see the Sailor Moon commanders, not to mention the in-game appearance of Chobits characters as AI friends.

FD uses their freely available exposure in marketing very carefully. As they have very limited budget for this, they will keep mum till last minute. They will want to do more grassroots type of campaign. Also consider they are brits.

Hello, we're the grass! Water us :)

Hey all, we're looking into your questions now, thanks for your patience. We're putting together some more information on the PlayStation4 ED release and so forth. :)

I love you FDev!!! [heart] But there's still one more petal on my rose if you go breaking my heart [arrrr]

look, I get what everyone is saying on this thread, I'm a bit frustrated too, but in reality, what are we expecting them to say or do?

We have a release date

we have seen the trailer

we have 2 years worth of you tube videos to look at

we have the forum , the fan sites yada yada yada

so I'm not really sure what peoples expectations are? what do you want them to add on top of everything that is already out there? apart from the ps4pro info(which is a minority) and PSVR info(again in a minority) then I'm not really sure what you guys are looking for.

Is it not maybe because we have had such a brutal wait that maybe we are jumping the gun?

I can only speak for myself. I want Frontier to promote their game. Parents who are proud of their children brag on their children (often to annoying excess). When parents keep their children locked away in their rooms, it's worrisome. E3 is a nice example of how gaming companies promote their games. I saw lots of in game footage for games releasing in 2018. The trailer doesn't count - that's not gameplay, that cinema. The YouTube videos don't count, because that's not gameplay on the Playstation consoles.

I want this, not because I'm impatient to play (though I really do want to play), but because something is "off" in how Frontier is handling the PS4 release. Again, watch how other companies, including some small indie companies, are showing off their games at E3. I want Frontier to show some pride in their work on the PS4. If Frontier is not proud of their game (and I'm talking PS4), how can they expect me to be proud of it? That's what's got me frustrated.

ps - I'm not one to give in to conspiracy theories, but it almost feels like Microsoft is paying them to be quiet regarding the PS4. You do realize that's how Microsoft got the exclusive in the first place - a payout. After the big shoutout the new XBox got on the E3 livestream (contrasted to the dead silence re: PS4 Pro), people start wondering...

I think biggest issue is toxicity - there are certain group of gamers online who attack FD very angrily when they announce or hype anything. Thus having game released AND then hype it on certain platform makes more sense.

See my previous post. FD really doesn't show off unfinished stuff...they want to avoid that unless they are at beta stage or it is something they can't avoid. They have been burnt too many times. Thus they concentrate on releasing game AND advertising it as it is for now.

So FD being silent is a good sign. It means everything goes as planned and PS4 players will have ED ready and loaded for them to play. And THEN they will start to hype game up. Because it will be a real thing.

It appears I am late to the Ball as usual......

I am in complete agreement with Old Duck on this one, More game play videos would have been nice. I am very surprised that there just hasn't been a lot of talk, showings, round table discussions with the PS4 group who, from the look of this forum, and I am sure there are many more peeps out there who do not post but read ours, would love to see a more enthusiastic marketing ploy to get more people excited for this game. As well as answer a lot more questions that are on our minds and at the same time put us at ease about our port.

As for you Miss acidburn2k20, I am working on your badge

I am a Brit, I have considered this, still does not compute, British companies can market stuff.

The problem with the grassroots campaign is there are a lot of PS4 owners out there who are blissfully unaware Elite Dangerous even exists. Still I don't care about them, I care about me. :D. So hopefully we will get some communication soon if the FDev response in other threads is anything to go by.

I understand your stance and I also do agree with you. For myself, the frustration came from the statement that they would be releasing information in the "weeks" leading up to release. I am fine if they say everything is on schedule and all that. Just the statement about releasing more info in the weeks leading up made it seem like there was more they were wanting to say but not 13 days out they haven't. Reading to much into their statement is probably just my problem. I tend to do that. I am just ready to play.

duck I hear you bro, but really, proud? if you are not already proud AND thankfull that it is even coming to the ps4 then why are you on this forum every single day just like me? your constant activity on here just shows that either way, you are still interested and will still buy it, your contributions show that your already proud irrelevant of the crap PR. I'm already gratefull for a ps4 version that I know is coming out. That's all I need to know, the FDevs have confirmed that it is not a watered down port-that's all I need to know, I have a release date, I have wonderfull commanders on this forum offering co-op play I really don't need to know anything else.

Another thing people seem to forget is ED is over 2 years old, who manages and actively promotes a game at E3 that is well beyond played for 2 other major platforms..................WE ARE LATE TO THE PARTY, hence, why we don't get the same "RAZMATAZ" as the xbox or PC. AGAIN I hear everyone on here about this, but, I think we should not get to wound up about it as at the end of the day we are going to get the game we desperately have wanted for over 2 years!!!!!
