FSS, DSS, Honk, Firegroups, Modes

Love the 3.3 changes/updates.

However, the way the various modes work needs a second pass and alignment between the multiple views available to us.

When I map bodies I don't get the same info as when scanning- the displayed info from mapping should be at least as detailed, if not more-so. This also needs representing on the System map in a consistent manner (see below).

Either make fire-groups stuck to the mode, so fewer fire-groups to click through when in combat or scanning, or get rid of the mode and let the fire group control it.

I can jump out of Mapping Mode/DSS and into Combat mode and still see the probes land and planet mapping when I just launched them. This view and info should be available whenever I want it... did I map part of that planet already? Can we get mapping mode to be less intrusive and halting the piloting of the ship and more of an overlay like I get when I switch out of DSS into Combat mode after launching probes?

Nav Panel and HUD need indicators if a body is 1) Discovered, 2) Scanned for POI and composition, 3) detail mapped. I've wasted time in systems with a lot of bodies sometimes going back to ones I've mapped already. Knowing this should require minimal if any display hopping (no opening system map, please).

System Map should have all the info available and locations of surface features mapped as when super-cruising past a body. I scanned everything in a Guardian system and mapped several bodies, including one with 3 Guardian sites, but the System map doesn't show the sites and I can't select them from that view as nav targets or bookmark them. The System view does have Planet Materials, but it should overlay like the FSS scanner does it and I really wish FD would allow us to slide that left panel closed and get it out of the way in all map views.

We need a "mini-map" when on planet surfaces, and ability to plot way-points or markers of some kind, with limited persistence. I find it too easy to get disoriented with where I want to go, especially if distracted by something shiny in a different direction. The tech of 3300, especially if we have detail mapped a body, should allow surface GPS and mini-map display.

Lastly, keep developing the Orrey view, it has huge potential, especially once logarithmic scaling is introduced. Should have all the info of the current flat system map, plus scan info as above, plus faction info, PP info, USS info, POI, etc.

i agree,

I like how the hud turns blue for the scanning mode

Itd be cool if the hud went red in combat mode

Id also like a 3rd fire button. and in game customisable hud colours rather than the text editor. that just messes up all the colours.

oo how about instead of the two modes. you name each preset (that pops up when you switch like scanning/combat mode) and along with the name you can choose a colour too.
if i was doing it i would have a default ship OS colour thats set in the ship tab. and the center part of the hud colour thats attached to each named fire group.
