Full Version September Release Date?

Advertising on the anniversary of Elite will not interest anyone. Except the ancients who have experienced Elite, FE2 and FFE
The BBC will make a big thing of it it I expect, and plenty of game sites. It'll reach the eyes and ears of a few million that are currently unaware, in a polished and fantastic state just in time for Christmas.

It's very possible. But the anniversary will have no influence in the choice of new buyers

Like many, I don't think we're going to see a September release this year, but that's not necessarily a bad thing.

The publicity will be great though:
"30th anniversary of epic game, oh look, it's modern descendant is about to be released, you can buy in now before then if you want, it's nearly Christmas", etc.

Much rather they get it right rather than just trying to hit a date.

Personally the anniversary of EVE (this is an example) would leave me completely indifferent. Because I do not know EVE and I've never played this game. So I do not feel concerned by his birthday

Alpha, great. Beta, great.. Gamma just isn't a thing, someone coined the phrase recently and now it's being used all over the place :p

That someone was David Braben - he suggested the term in dev diary #7 and it was taken up with gusto by the community. The terms "alpha" and "beta" were locked in during the Kickstarter campaign, and a year later it turned out the most appropriate times to open the process up to "alpha" and "beta" backers didn't quite match the dictionary definitions of the words. In fact it turned out the game would end up better if there was an extra round of testing - I don't know the word for that, but "gamma" works as well as any other.

I don't think anyone (including Frontier) really knows what will be in the gamma, but my guess is that they'll use that time to add and tune events (wars, famines, station openings and so on) that don't affect core game mechanics.

Yes the most important is the engine of the game. Everything else is just of dressing

If the game is 'released' this year('gamma', 'full', 'whatever you want to call it'), I seriously doubt it will have all the things people expect, or all the things listed in the DDF - but if Frontier are 'in it for the long haul' as they say that doesn't really matter does it?

It does amuse me the amount of chatter we have about planetary landings and FPS excursions at present - talk about cart before horse people! They won't be out till 2016-2017. :D

We've only seen 5 ships in the past 6 months, still another 20 to go. I suppose once the engine's sound, a few more artists and modellers can be let loose...

Most likely FD is not really that interested in new buyers, they want to convert their fan base first. Lot of people has been skeptical or on fence due of long wait for Elite 4 and doubts that crowdfunding is enough to do Elite 4 justice.

FD clearly will come after people who know Elite first. They will aim for new comers too, but there will be more complex, multi stage marketing.

I imagine the only thing about the anniversary that will interest people is to see if any goodies come along with it.

"Gamma" phase isn't a thing, can we stop making it a thing...

Unless someone mistook GM (gold master) for gamma, perhaps it's forgivable but gamma is most definitely not a software testing phase..

Oh yes it is. It's the phase that comes after beta and the one that precedes the delta phase; starting January 2015. :)
