At least they were clean.
HarshThe game really includes some obscure and niché refrerences. Recently I assassinated Aspen Pittman. Who the fluff is Aspen Pittman, you ask? He was a prominent figure in the tube guitar amplifier industry and community, wrote a book that is regarded to be the bible of tubes and tube amps, and founded one of the largest tube brands and suppliers, Groove Tubes. A very obscure reference, and I would guess the vast majority have no idea who or what I am talking about. And his name is in the game, and I just killed him (again, he died in 2019).
yeah that's what I thought. I love finding easter eggs like that in the game. Especially the obscure ones, where you have to have niché knowledge to recognize them. I wonder how many I missed because it was a niché I had no clue about.Harsh
I do love finding nice obscure ones. It's not too unlikely one of the kickstarter backers, or one of the original team working on the game, had a great respect for him and so decided to use their 'name an NPC' for him. There were over 11 thousand people who backed at a high enough level initially to get that reward, and names couldn't be duplicated. I'm not sure if though who upgraded to a high enough level before release also got included, I can't remember when they asked us to submit the names.
Think I saw that on an FC, was that an NPC ship?Good one yesterday - Perosteck Balveda (No screenshots, I got indicted by John someone about three seconds after that, and it was a ship I needed to go after). It's a pity the 22 character limit prevents a proliferation of good solid Banksian ship names.
Also saw "Lying Bas****" on the navigation list but not sure if that was player or NPC.
Yes the peaceful exploration ship designed by a 'mad' puppeteer to be flown by a Kzin, number of potential weapons = many.Think I saw that on an FC, was that an NPC ship?
From Ringworld by Larry Niven IIRC?
Yes, although it's also a reference to the much wider back-story which was already in some of the short stories by that point in Niven's career. In short, the protagonist is hired for an "exploration" expedition but actually the alien race already know exactly what the alleged blue-sky research will find. Hence Louis Wu's suggestion they call it "Lying B" in the same way the Mafia might call the local barber shop "Definitely Not-A-Front Gentlemen's Hairdressing"Think I saw that on an FC, was that an NPC ship?
