That particular name actually has a little bit of related history. The original Elite was published bu Acornsoft for the BBC Micro. Amongst other games they published as Revs, a racing game. It was also very advanced for its time. Anyway, you raced against other drivers who all had daft names like this. I could remember about 10 of them, but I searched for the rest:Yeah that guy, I have see in a few space ports.

There is a possibility they may use newer players real names to go into the pot I suppose, and I know a few have been added for staff. I don't know how many there were in the first place. I've still never met my NPC in almost 6 years, though I have been seen twice by people I know.
In the beginning...
There were two pots of names, the ones that kickstarter backers got to name and then another that contained a huge number of forenames and surnames. The second one would have a random one picked from each set to form the majority of the NPCs
On a side note I'd like to hope Tyres is out there somewhere.

Thank you for alerting me to the fact I may bump into a version of myself as an AI construct. Now I know an NPC could possibly have my RL name, I won’t have a heart attack at the sight of such a thing.
Instead, I can deploy my hard points...

Any fans of "I'm Sorry I Haven't A Clue" out there?
For a while now, I've been collecting NPC names that I find Funny or who are named after Famous people/things. One thing that's made me chuckle throughout the years is how many of the original backers named their NPCs, makes me feel slightly silly for just naming mine after myself... Especially as I haven't seen myself personally, though others have.
I'm told that hastags should be short and catchy, so this one is #FunnyOrFamousEliteDangerousNPCNames

Just on a side note it's really nice for me to see this thread, which I started 2 1/2 years ago, getting some traction again. There's no way we'll ever go through them all, but I'm still amazed at the ingenuity of some people
