Galactic Mapping Project Entering Maintenance only and edsm.net

You miss a lot when you join a game and community like Elite Dangerous late - Just over 11 months ago in May last year for me.
One of the most crucial community resources for me is edsm.net and the wealth of points of interest it has to visit when out exploring. It provides a reason to go somewhere - to see a simulation of what might amazing things might be out there in the galaxy to discover. Pure escapism at its best. Without it, I would be randomly wandering the billions of uninteresting systems and soon lose interest. One of the things I've missed joining late, is the connection between the Galactic Mapping Project and edsm.net.
I'm always looking out for discoveries worthy of inclusion in edsm.net and it is an element of motivation to periodically go into the black for a few weeks to explore.
I'm very sad to hear no further contributions will be accepted except for DSSA Fleet Carrier entries.
Those behind the project do it voluntarily and I don't expect them to put their time into it if it's not satisfying for them to continue. I'm quite certain that in the history of computer gaming there is nothing quite like the scale and detail of this community achievement. It is amazing, and I offer all those involved in it a huge O7.

But I am feeling down about the fact it will not continue to grow

I didn't know that and I thought it was only just announced. Obsidian Ants video on the subject was published yesterday.

That may be in official terms, but in practical terms, it has been in a downhill slide for quite a while now. Well past its prime. Contrary to the common narrative, exploration in Elite Dangerous is alive and well with new stuff happening all the time!
