Galapagos Tortoise Swimming

Hi.

I remember back in Beta that the Galapagos Giant Tortoise could swim. It can't anymore. Not sure as to why this change happened, but would it be possible to reimplement it into the game? Just a small request but I feel like it would bring a lot of well-deserved attention back to this unique animal. Thank you kindly c:

Is there Footage of the Swimming Animation? I never saw it and would love to see it. Also, yes they definitely need to bring it back and I assume they should also add it to the Aldabra Tortoise

While I can’t say for certain for the Galapagos Tortoise, the Aldabra Tortoise can swim in real life. There’s even a video on YouTube that shows it.
Currently trying to find a Video of a Galapagos Tortoise swimming but it's hard to find because the YouTube Search is too stupid today for some Reason and shows lots of unrelated Stuff.
At least I've learned that they make other Sounds too than just Breeding Noises

🙃 That's what I think a Permian Watering Hole would've sounded like

The video I was talking about was of an Aldabra tortoise swimming, which can’t even wade in shallow water in game.

I know fully grown adults are too big to swim like the one above. They do float/swim in deeper water tho.

I really don’t remember them swimming in beta but I didn’t really use them either so definitely could have been the case.

well, the Galapagos Giant Tortoise, as the name says, is a tortoise, not a turtle, so it's correct they don't swim.
Being able to swim and leading a semi-aquatic lifestyle are separate things. Even the pangolins swim in the game, would you call them aquatic?

Both Aldabra and Galapagos giant tortoises float in real life, and they can swim, even adults. Some other species on the other hand are not buoyant, so this logic wouldn't apply to all tortoises in general, but the two species featured in the game should be able to swim.

Even though I haven't seen the animations with my own eyes, since they have already made such animations, it should be pretty easy to re-implement them and I hope they will.

Not sure if it even breaks any rules but to boot, even after using the Tortoise to mod, the files it has reveals several swimming animations that unfortunately aren’t able to be switched on. I know it’s a very minor thing but it’d be so good for more interesting habitat designs and totally not for me to make an Alligator Snapper with.

Really? But Tortoises like to stay in Water sometimes to cool down. They should definitely be able to do it. I know the Video of the swimming Aldabra Tortoise but I sadly can't find one of a swimming Galapagos Tortoise. Maybe some Tortoises can swim but others are unable to do it?
I had read somewhere that tortoises in the Galapagos wade and rest in the water almost daily and even swim lazily in deeper sections.

Is it both tortoises that have the animation or only one?

so it's correct they don't swim.
Actually they can swim, even if they are poor swimmers. They can't actively swim from one island to the other, they need to travel passively in such instances, but they can definitely paddle around in a small zoo pond, because they are naturally buoyant and thus float.

This is also a behaviour that can be witnessed on a daily basis in the wild.

For the ones looking for a source on Galapagos Giant Tortoise swimming:

Mentions swimming 3 times.

I have noticed that as well. Animals that couldn't swim like primates used to wade, but they no longer do. Wonder what caused this change?
This sounds horrible. Didn't notice it yet, but they definitely need to fix this
I think it happened when they added water depth & width information to the Zoopedia section on how to contain animals (barriers, moats, height, etc.) and it really doesn't make any sense to add such a section to the Zoopedia with a minimum water depth to contain an animal when even a nanometer is enough to contain them.

Are you sure you want to use the deep swimming system for the snapper? It would look really weird floating on the surface all the time even with 4 metre or more water. Perhaps the hippo navigation is better? If that is even possible to mod.
totally possible in terms of the hippo but you’d lose out on all the turtle animations. probably better to use the tortoise and for the time being at least, they can wade in shallow water and it’ll look pretty good for some large scale lakes and what not.
