Galaxy map and other disapointments

Edit: Figured it out.. I had assigned the hat and the paddle which were also assigned to UI. Once I assigned those differently on the galaxy map it works fine. So, lesson learned, do not assign anything on the galaxy map screen that is assigned for UI elsewhere..

I leaned this lesson too. Almost all of my UI settings carry over into the Galaxy map. The only movement settings left on the stick are traversing the Z axis and Hat switch up/down to control the map pitch. I use my mouse to manipulate the view then switch to the stick to nudge the selector to the star system then left/right hat to navigate the floaty sub menu.

Also, I found that when trying to plot a course in planetary view, traversing the Z axis won't move the selector. This is where the pitch up/down on my hat switch comes into play as it "bodges" or snaps the selector to the settlement after I rotate the view by mouse.

I found the galaxy map far easier to use in VR than non-VR. I can navigate by sightline with ease so I can easily go straight to a system thats closer to colonia than where I am without faffing about. I can zoom around the galaxy and have a full 360 degree idea of where I am very easily. Orientation is far easier as well. Also I can look around me for worlds without having to scroll anywhere, I can be in a system, see a planet hovering over my left shoulder, whizz the map round and get right to it very easily. All using the mouse.

In the cockpit I can look anywhere in the 3D sky and get distance information by just looking at a planet, even straight up. On a surface I can get info from minerals blasted out of rocks by just looking at them...everything is vastly easier in 3D.

I use the small gap near the nose of my rift to look at the keyboard but mostly just memorise all the relevant keys.

Its far more clunky in 2D.
