Galaxy map freezes after plotting route

While I know it doesn't help with your problem, I haven't had that either. Have you installed any new software lately, specifically stuff like AV and firewalls, if you have test by disabling it and try again.

My maps freeze occasionally (well, I can't exit or navigate the menus) - IIRC moving the cursor off the destination, or opening the other map (system or galaxy) and flipping back again usually gets things working normally.

I have updated Windows 10 recently but that is all. Regarding the suggestion to open the system map the freeze effectively prevents this. I can just about get out after plotting a route by pressing Esc.

FWIW, I've also not seen any such issue.

Not sure if it would help, but if you are using windowed mode you could try changing to fullscreen and then back again. It cured a strange problem with the mouse that plagued me for quite a while before I figured it out. The window appeared to fullscreen but must have had a small area where the hidden mouse cursor actually left the game window and caused me problems.

Another longshot might be to delete gpuworktable: https://forums.frontier.co.uk/threa...files-and-where-are-they.584913/#post-9381180

Yeah I get like Untilting said sometimes and also what you describe where only hitting escape (or start) is the only way I know to get out of it, sometimes.

I could never pin down exactly what triggers that/similar though. Know what you mean!! But no help here!

Tried changing between window and borderless mode - no effect but thanks for the interest. I think the graphics card is OK as no artefacts/slowdowns elsewhere.
FWIW, it has solved strange issues that seemed unrelated in the past.

On the other hand if it's a transitory problem, it might be related to networking or maybe something on the server side. Maybe it needs data back from the servers and doesn't get it so appears to hang.

try deleting the gpuworktable.xml in your products folder else it is more than likely a server side issue which should sort itself out in time....................
the amazon ecs servers the game runs on may have hicups occasionally when they swap out a blade for maintenance which will efffect some and not others
else try a cable to router (no wifi)

Hardwired to switch hardwired to modem. Did not know that Amazon hosted ED - interesting. Deleted GPUWorkTable (well renamed it) as suggested. Slightly improved matters but for a 3000ly+ route still slows to a crawl. Nevertheless thanks for your interest - I will hope it is due to the hiccup you mention.

That's strange, I know a trick that can map 60k+ly routes and even that doesn't take all that long on my system, the route plotter has been improved no end since its inception, so much so that it used to site there for 30+ minutes trying to plot through dense areas of stars like the core area but can do it easily now.

ya sag A routes can be a nightmare
as the worktable is just a cache i dont see what good renaming it does if an old asset is stuck but ho hum......
i assume drivers are fairly up to date

If I plot a short route (several jumps) then the galaxy map remains responsive but if it is > 600ly say then the issue persists. The routes are around -6000, -1000, 20000 so not near galaxy centre. By renaming the worktable I confirm it generates a new one named gpuworktable.xml.

Just spotted this thread: There are quite a few galaxy map issues, They never gain any traction on the issue plotter though. (I'm a very active fuel rat >2300 rescues - and deal with or experience theses issues frequetly)

1) Galaxy map can freeze the game, particualry when trying to exit galaxy map.

2) Route mode and other route options might not be set whern you log into the geme, Particuarly the first login of a session. This includes Fastest/Economical route, Cargo mass when plotting, and use jetcone booost. Simply flipping between fastest and economical route (and back again) makes those settings active. Prior to doing that, the UI looks as you want it bit the game does not necessarily honour those settings.

3) "Apply filter to route" can go missing. It can unset itself when you log into game or when you even click on any of the filter types to view the settings. If you have a filter for scoopable stars set, and thought that you have "Apply filte to route" set, it might not be set any more. I've rescued many commander who are caught out by that issue, but think it;s their error.

4) if you are in a system wth a neutron star or White Dwarf, Galavy map will always assume that you have boosted from the Neutron/WD - This is Irrespective of whether you have "Use jetcone boost" set or not, or even have a fuel scoop to get the boost. You may need to target an adjacent star to jump out of tghat system and jump therre vefore continuing your route if you are bot able to (or do not wish to) use jetcone boost. The Solid/dashed lines on galmap also assue jetcone boost due to this bug, so your fuel range and reachable "Fuel star" might not be as the map shows if you do not/cannot use jetcone boost.

(edited to add bug 4)

Thanks for the above interesting comments, I will make sure that before plotting a route the galaxy map is in fastest trip mode although I have not come across this as an issue.
