I use an xbox controller just for the galaxy and system map. It's perfect for it. rotations are on the two analog sticks, and the shoulder pads are for zoom in/out and up/down.
Now... if Frontier added a virtual keyboard for the search box that would be great!
Thank you very much!!!! Mapping my galaxy map to my xbox controller was incredibly smooth, I can now plan routes for the first time, I can't tell you what a difference that made, I mapped pitch and and yaw zoom, rotation, system map etc. to my xbox one controller in options controls Galaxy map, It's so intuitive and took care of the mad flickering. I use my Logitech g940 for flight and open cockpit menus which is still a twitchy nightmare but It's getting the job done and works great in flight. I wonder if my twitchy controller buttons are due to my old and badly supported discontinued Logitech g940 HOTAS ?
also pitch is so important to target the next system your trying to jump to in Galaxy map. Just pitch up or down with your xbox one controller and put the circle around the destination your trying to jump to! when your circle is on this point you can plan your trip through the pop up window. Just don't plan your jump to far if your a noob like me, one small jump to the very next star system "if you have enough jump power and fuel capacity to get that far" sorry not the proper terminology. But it's all something like this :/
