The reason is that it's getting the jump logs from its own log file, elite-copilot.log. I could maybe have it look at older netlog files as well - I'll see if more people ask for it, in which case I'll check if I can implement it with reasonable effort!

Release Notes:
V 0.29
- Jump logs now have a timestamp in your local time for more detailed tracking
- The Copilot will now speak with the first non-Microsoft voice installed in your system if you don't have a speech.ini file
- Most speech should be a lot more continous now (but also faster). Download and change speech.ini if you think
it's too fast, and le me know what you think!
- Length of the route announced should not include the starting system anymore now, but the actual number of jumps required
- Probably fixed a bug where buttons would be black on some systems
- Might have fixed a bug with jump distance being too long when entering a distance without decimal point
The reason I was asking was another forum member was discussing how nice it was to be able to see all the systems you have visited since you started (I agree). I said it could be done with copilot, then realised it couldnt. He was using linux grep.
ps I replied with quote your whole message because in my forum theme is was white on white and not readable. I removed the Color tags.
What a bunch of pathetic worms frontier are that a third party programmer can create a better mapping utility than the virtually useless one that comes with the game. Good stuff.
The mapping tool in-game is clearly not a route planner. It doesn't calculate a route between point A to point B - instead it calculates a route from Point A to ALL other points in an ever-expanding globe around point A. This is handy if you don't know where you're going, for shorter jumps. However what they should do is change to a path finding mode when you have a set destination picked (i.e once you select a system, calculate the route accordingly).
I do hope they do improve the in-game routing to take the selected destination into account in a future patch though since as good as these routing tools are, they are still more of a pain to use than a proper in-game route (which automatically selects the next destination). What I've started doing is using an external tool to route long jumps, and then pick a star somewhere in the middle of the route in the galaxy map. That way I know I'm going in the right direction easier, and I still get the benefit of multi-jumps within the game without having to wait a long time (40-50 ly is fast enough).
A problem I have found is that I don't think the in-game router will always return the route with the shortest number of legs (and I have quickest routes switched). I have been given 10 by ED when copilot gave me 7 and the routed worked.
I also found that ED would not include a hop that was 2.75 ly when my limit was 2.77
(Hercules sector EL-YB4 - Cephei Sector ST-R B4-2).
It would not even plot from one to the other when I was in Hercules - must remember to ticket.
But I was able to jump that distance and it appeared in my Nav column in game (not map).
Avast quarantined the .exe file on me :/
Same for me. I would recommend avoiding this product until this is discussed. In other news, where the crap is my Logs folder? I don't have and E/Products/FORC-FDEV thing going on.

Dissatisfied with waiting for the Galaxy Map to calculate longer routes for you? There's an app for that!
Elite:Copilot will find routes within 1-2 seconds even if you travel 200+ LY. It will guide you to your destination using spoken instructions, and you can tell it to route you around locked systems. It will also dynamically find new routes in case you're taking a detour.

To get set up, you need 3 things:
1) Download it from https://app.box.com/s/2k73xd3jj6wn6unyb7gi - EDIT: DROPBOX mirror: http://goo.gl/uFUSoS
(You should get the .exe, the systems.json, and speech.ini if you want to set a custom system voice like Ivona if you have it)
You can put the files on your desktop or whereever, and then run the executable by double clicking it.
2) Set netlog path
Click the "set netlog path" button in the tool, and navigate to your E/Products/FORC-FDEV../Logs folder and select any of the netlog*.* files in there. You only need to do this once.
3) AppConfig.xml
Before you start E, you also once need to change an option in your AppConfig.xml file in your Frontier\EDLaunch\Products\FORC-FDEV-D-1002 directory. In the Network section put a new line with VerboseLogging="1" . That will have E
write your current system into its log files so that Elite Copilot will know where you are in the galaxy.

False alarms is very common when dealing with small utilities like this one. Especially with Avast![]()

LS3D, you shouldn't even need to run it as admin. Java isn't required either. I haven't heard of anyone not having the tool window at all so I'm in the dark as to what could be going on that causes it. Starting with the basics, what OS are you running?
Yes I know. I was attempting humor at saying the tool shouldn't be used and then following it up asking a question that indicates that I am indeed using the tool.
I got problems now though ..... My computer for some reason has stored my Elite Dangerous folders under an AppData folder that is hidden. I can find this location by searching hidden folders, but the set netlog path function within the tool can not find this location at all. Any insight from someone more technically advanced than I with windows7?
I'm running W7x64
