Galaxy map targeting

I play on console. I am OK at targeting systems. When the get far away, I move my pov to be level with the horizontal plane. Then I move up or down until the plane is level with the target system. Then I move my pov to verticle and put the circle on the target. Then I zoom in. That usually gets me real close.

I have a suggestion. Probably different ways to do this but here is one. Suppose I put the circle on the area where the target is and press a button. When I press it the game shifts my pov a set amount to the right while leaving my circle where it is and I am still facing the circle. So I basically swing in a arc to the right. Now I am looking at the area from a different angle. I fine tune adjust the circle to the target again and press the button again. Now it shifts it up and halfway back left. These 3 points form a triangle. I readjust the circle again and press the button again. The game uses the 3 points to calculate a funnel. Wide where the points were and ends where it calculates the crossing lines where the circles were. Then I am positioned in the center of the funnel and I can zoom toward the small end. As I zoom I can move the small end with the stick.

Oh, and zoom backwards too. So can probe in and out of an area of the map if I want.

And if I zoom all the way to the small end, let it extend if I keep zooming.
