Galaxy Map Trade Route display : figured it out - not bugged after all!

Until recently I was sure the Trade Routes on the Galaxy Map were bugged. It seemed every time I wanted to find a specific commodity, I would display it on the map, determine the exporting systems and fly there, only to find over and over again that they were not selling the thing I wanted. Bet it's happened to most of you!

Well, I think I figured this one out. Turns out each *station* in a single system can have a different Commodities Market to the other stations in the same system. Not just different prices, but completely different items for sale! If you go to an exporter (as shown on the Galaxy map) and you don't find exactly what you want (eg Non Lethal Weapons), it is because you are at the wrong station in the system - you probably just went to the nearest station to the sun, there is no guarantee that this is the exporter you saw on the map. Go to the System Map. If you are lucky the exporting station will either be guessable (by economy type), or will actually state it exports e.g. Non Lethal Weapons. If neither, you'll just have to visit them all until you find it (and take note when you do for future reference). But there definitely will be one of them selling. This method has never failed for me now that I've figured it out.

p.s you can find some really nice in-system trade routes with this method.

Please keep this bumped as I believe not a lot of players know this and are frustrated by the Galaxy Map sending them on wild goose-chases repeatedly.

While the trade route display isn't "bugged", so to speak, it is certainly giving out incorrect information. Why? Because of the trading bug discussed in this thread:

https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=78860

In summary, the NPC traders have traded to a demand station so much, that station then became a supplier instead. Agriculture stations selling factory machinery, refineries selling fruit and vegetables. However, the agriculture stations will still state they import factory machinery, and the refiniers will still state they import fruit and vegetables.

It's getting addressed, as you can see by the developer comments in that thread.

That's a bug in the economy programming if you ask me, and not specifically the Trade Route view on the Galaxy Map. I am specifically explaining the frustration people were having when trying to locate a specific commodity and using the Trade Route map to identify the exporters, assuming they could buy it there, but finding they can't.

While that certainly is an issue, the economy programming is also causing the data to get interpreted incorrectly in the trade route view. There's a couple of issues going on here - the one you stated where one system can have multiple industries, and the economy issue currently where a demand at a station flips to a supply, but is not noted as such by the trade route view.
