GALNET - 03 NOV 3306 - Federation Accused of Supporting the NMLA

The following should've been brought up in previous topics on this NMLA plotline...

...if an IED developed with Liz' schematics and those crappy Enzyme Missiles totalled several Stations -- how come CMDRs still have access only to those piddly missiles that don't do much?

because if Cmdrs had access to "an IED developed with Liz' schematics [with] crappy Enzyme Missiles [that] totalled several Stations" the game wouldnt last vey long and nor would the war. Although IDA would have plenty to do but nowhere to buy anything :)

I'm reminded of the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy and Hactar's Ultimate Weapon. The first thing we'd try to do with a station busting weapon is shoot each other with it and complain that everyone got blown up when it was fired at frag cannon range.

Because I imagine there are things even we can't get our grubby mitts on- reverb lasers is an example.

I know it's already been said... but putting 'nukes' into the hands of players would certainly see them being used continually...

It is a bit like the stupid suggestions that FC's should be destructible - some folk will go to great lengths to do just that... Just because it inconveniences someone else...

This triggered a lot of folks, and that's fine.

Now, personally I thought UA bombing was a very interesting player-driven phenomenon that isn't often seen in MMOs...
...but people, please, there's a huge spectrum of effectiveness and deadliness between the Enzyme Missiles we have now, and whatever that thing was that Liz designed.

It doesn't have to be a million damage over time, but something better then the party poppers that the current missiles are would be nice.

They could kill a CG....although Colonia literally wouldnt be where it is today without them so....winners & losers, probably best left in the past though

I wouldn't go as far as triggered.

This sort of thing comes up every now and again when someone digs back into previous games and discovers the energy bomb. In it's original iteration it could instantly destroy any nearby ship. In a single player game, as this was, that's fine, but it does show there's a line in a multiplayer game that weapons become too powerful.

Missiles can of course be very destructive if you clap someone's modules with them.

I would actually like to know where that abandoned lab they found is. Would like to see it for myself.

I'm also not surprised of the Feds being involved in this. I do wonder though if this happened on orders of the current administration or some hardliners who conspired in a similar way to the Starship-One-shenanigans.
Yeah I was going to suggest this. I don't think this is official Federation policy, but unofficial shadow government level felgercarb that can be disavowed if needed. The question here is who benefits from a potential conflict or the destabilization of the empire?

And keep in mind I'm thinking long term. I know the knee jerk reaction would be to say Hudson because of the Starship One trial but that's very recent news, this thing seems like it's been in the works awhile. I'll be honest, I never liked Felicia Winters, she seemed very willing to be shady to me, but I'm not discounting Hudson trying to play 4d chess or even a third party we haven't seen yet.

I DO believe though this isn't official Federation policy which is why I can believe various officials in the government claiming ignorance of it, they really may not know about it.

EDIT: Btw we need to come up with some Elite Dangerous, in world curse words I can use on these forums. The profanity filter is a bunch of (Expletive deleted) and (Expletive deleted) with a (Expletive deleted) and can shove it up it's (Expletive deleted) :ROFLMAO:

I'm gonna blame the Rochesters. They seem awfully shady to me.

Don't forget it was one of 'em who recommended taking in the Marlinists in the first place.

Federal Ambassador Jordan Rochester, who was once engaged to Princess Aisling Duval, provided an official response:

“There is no extradition treaty for unconvicted citizens, and these people have claimed political asylum. I have requested that Congress grant them sanctuary within the Federation, and that we offer protection to all Marlinists seeking to escape discrimination by the Empire.”

Wasnt Rochester basically acting as Winters 'food taster' though and getting the public behind it before she declared in favour? A fairly common tactic even in 21st Century, if in doubt leak it out and then decide which way the wind is blowing before saying what you think which just so happens to be popular.

Too close to Winters to be a leak of that sort - Rochester is the son of Winters' Shadow VP. Too high profile and messy to sacrifice if the policy ends up unpopular - that sort of thing would be left to some diplomatic attaché at the local embassy.
