GALNET - 29 DEC 3306 - Lakon Spaceways Faces Financial Collapse

and unfortunately, that's not some in-game lore thing. It's just because fdev refuses to re-balance the ships since SLF's were released so big ships behave like big ships that can't dogfight and small ships behave like small ships that can't solo big ships like they're basically the same size.

I'd be all up for a Conda 'nerf' or 'sort of buff' and equalised the hull tonnage without killing the jump range too much if they also introduced the lore properly and let it carry a Sidewinder.

The Independent Commission for Market Equality has also reported irregularities in the recent transfer of share ownership, which may lead to criminal investigations.
Possible plays from Mahon here - have the share transfers declared invalid to block the Core Dynamics buyout, but take advantage of the current low price to get a controlling interest cheaply for the Alliance.

Current share prices are probably way undervalued if the company survives - the T-x line is a solid hauler, the Asp is one of the most popular multirole designs, the Alliance C-ships are a guaranteed market so being able to snap it up cheaply would definitely be in Mahon's interests.

“The Lakon merger is entirely Jupiter Rochester’s project.
Which makes sense for it being a Federal play itself - much more about taking out the Alliance's favoured military supplier than actual commercial sense. But the Rochesters (especially via various Liberal contacts) can bankroll that, and the Federal Navy is too dependent on Core Dynamics not to bail them out if it goes wrong ... though it would be a good opportunity for Hudson to take a swipe at Liberal mismangement of the military and polish his own credentials a bit.

My prediction (sort of similar to FalconFly in this thread):

Marlinists form their own superpower; a part of Core Dynamics and Lakon Spaceways split off of their parent companies to form a new supplier to serve as this new power’s military contractor.

This would be a similar story to how the Alliance was formed, if I’m not mistaken; born out of a conflict between the Federation and the Empire. So this new power would be more closely tied to the Alliance, maybe serving as a foil for them in the same way the Feds and Imps serve as a foil for each other

marlinists are just a split of the empire. they would have nothing to do with the alliance. They're empire except they dont like the current ruling family.

There's no need to give them their own identity since they dont have a distinct one.

GALNET - 29 DEC 3306 - Lakon Spaceways Faces Financial Collapse

Economic instability has caused the value of shares in Lakon Spaceways to drop to unprecedented lows, placing the company’s future in doubt.

Points to Asp Scout.

A hostile takeover bid by Federal corporation Core Dynamics has raised concerns in the Alliance over the loss of a major defence contractor. The Independent Commission for Market Equality has also reported irregularities in the recent transfer of share ownership, which may lead to criminal investigations.

Points to Hudson.

As a result, although Lakon Spaceways continues to manufacture and sell ships, its lack of reserves and a loss of confidence among investors may lead to insolvency and dissolution.

Points to Asp Scout.

Trent Delaney, the newly appointed chairperson of Lakon’s board of directors, announced:

“Financial mismanagement and a litany of poor business decisions have led to this situation. Rest assured that once formal negotiations with our new parent company are complete, Lakon’s stock will rise to new heights.”

Yeah I bet, with Hudson as the biggest shareholder.

According to Federal business analysts, there are indications of displeasure among Core Dynamics senior directors regarding this takeover. An anonymous source from within the corporation told Vox Galactica:

“The Lakon merger is entirely Jupiter Rochester’s project. Frankly, it’s sheer greed. Our income has soared recently with new commissions from the Navy, but Rochester’s grabbing hands are always reaching for something. He runs the departments that are loyal to him like they’re his personal kingdom.”

Are the Alliance just going to sit there and let Hudson Rochester buy their primary defence contractor without a fight or a counter-offer to Lakon shareholders? I think someone should call Mahon off the farm and tell him why he's going to face a Chieftain shortage next month.

maybe the alliance doesn't care because they're going to make their own ships and divest themselves of being dependent on tech shared by the feds and empire (and especially Sirius corp).

The Alliance reverse engineered the jump drive tech from thargoids and the club gave that tech to Sirius corp. There's nothing in the lore that suggests that the alliance just stopped their engineering efforts because Sirius corp had it too. The alliance could have their own version of a jump drive without any dependence on the pilots fed cartographies to limit them to permits or any other unknown control by foreign powers.

The alliance could also have hybrid human/thargoid ship tech that they further reverse engineered after upping security following the industrial espionage they suffered with the jump drive.

Lots of ways Fdev could go with the alliance, while the fed and empire continue to dispute things between eachother.

That's what happens when you don't release the "panther clipper"!
Well they can't, it's a Zorgon Peterson ship and I doubt Faulcon DeLacy would let a competitor steal one of their subsidiary's designs.

I'm putting 5cr on the Alliance launching some kind of investigation, finding something they don't like and buying/claiming Lakon as the official Alliance shipbuilder, angering a few high ranking Feds as a result.

Surprise! Lakon goes bankrupt, Rochester gets killed by a marlinist and Gutamaya affiliated private equity firm buys up the Lakon factories at liquidation auction.

My exploration AspX, Sylvia Stellae, reach 63+Ly with full fuel, best range is around 67 or 69, and fit a SRV, so can surely have even better range !
