GalNet and CMDRs

If Frontier decided not to update their GalNet news system, why don't let Commanders do that?
Like give them right to send news judging by their stats and stuff and everything will go better!
They don't even need to create something their own, they could just describe whats happening in background or with cmdrs involved
Like another one Raxxla find attempt or communist uprising in Sol?

Ugh, god no.

Squadrons should be able to publish to a feed, which you can subscribe to and gets populated into your news feed, then you can go out and subscribe to whatever fake-news feed you like.

But Galnet proper should be reserved for FD to push out canon news.

They tried this previously and it had issues.

Problems it had:
1) Most CMDRs are terrible writers. Reviewing, editing and then translating the acceptable submissions into the supported languages took a lot of time.
2) Most CMDRs are not unbiased. Reporting on a conflict between player groups in a neutral fashion is tricky ... and allowing one side to put up its preferred information caused complaints from the other side.
3) Intentionally, most CMDRs don't have access to the secret lore information, so a lot of things got rejected for contradicting that.

If you look for "Freelance Report" in the Galnet archives at
(mainly 3302) you can see how it used to work in terms of what got accepted.

I remember when this all kicked off and went "Huh, I wonder how, or even if this is going to work?"... sure enough, it didn't really.

I will say it’s a shame that it had to stop.

When I started, I played for months without any out of game info, and the Player Submited Galnet Articles contributed significantly to my awareness of things that were going on.

They also provided a means for people to let FD know what players were doing / discovering.

Their demise did leave some gaps, and they still need to be filled IMHO.

FWIW, I have nothing wrong with players telling their story. Whatever the bias, spin or whatever, player stories do add to the world.

But as mentioned by Ian, editing, translating, reviewing, these all take lots of effort. Throw in the complications FD simply don't have the resources to account for, such as bias, plagiarism, authenticity... these are all the things I personally expect to be 💯 before appearing on FD's official ingame news channel.

Personally, it became quickly apparent to me that a lot of that eventually didn't matter anyway, as it wasn't what you wrote, rather who wrote it. No shade on those writers, but I had several pieces gazumped days after I'd written them (and not been published) by very similar articles, that just happened to be written by the more commonly accepted writers.

Frankly, I don't blame FD for ending up in that sort of space, but it's not really fair or sustainable.

Oh yeah, don’t get me wrong, I completely get the issues and why it had to stop as well. Was just really commenting on what I considered to the most impactful gaps which had been left, which in my view are still something that FD hasn’t yet fully plugged. 👍

Okay, i've got it
But maybe... Just maybe... Can we have third-party integrations? I still want to listen radio or community-written news like Inara

And no news for months is breaking mah immurshon

you know what breaks my immersion?

having to reach over and pick up my whiskey glass just to take a drink.

i would think that my Remlock suit would have some kind of straw system. but no, like some kind of pleb i have to use my own two hands, one hand to pick up the glass the other to hold the glass hand steady, to take a sip.

literally unplayable.
