GALNET Audio - Devs, Why are You Crippling this New Feature?

This is actually a small outlook for the hopefully even better Kodex update that still takes way to long to be released. But I highly agree! Would love to get a lot more TTS stuff in the game. Listening to local news, systems with special description etc.

Get voice attack with Ivona amy, cut and paste some silly forum argument into voice attack, then play it to your friends, honestly puts things into perspective. Mental is the only word to describe it.

@Op - Fully agreed, I really hope they can put some more effort into Galnet Audio, it is great, but could definitely do with more, So much lore and background stuff that could be added. Really enjoyed those original articles, am back to copying ED wiki articles into a Voice attack random playlist

I wasn't aware that Voice Attack could do TTS natively. Interesting. I've only used the HCS voicepacks - their current singularity profile and plugin is really effective (e.g. detects masslock and won't let you jump, won't accidentally retract your landing gear when you "Deploy Landing Gear" when they are already deployed, etc.). They still have some bugs to work out, but it just keeps getting better.

More importantly: Where did you get Ivona Amy?! I've been trying to find a legal way to purchase/obtain Ivona Amy/Brian, but it looks like Amazon has pulled the software and wants everyone to use their cloud service (Polly). So frustrating...

It were also be wonderful to implement the possibility to add Game Related Radio Streams from the web like Radio Sidewinder or Lave Radio. Or Listen to MP3s which are on your PC. I have a lot of less complicted games like Eurotruck Simulator in my Steam library where i can do this. Perhaps in Season 4? [squeeeee]

Easy answer - Channels.

- New Items Only
- Weekly Roundup
- Origins and Lore
- From the Archive (Old News)
- Random Local News
- Targeted Local News (pick a System)
- Lave Radio
- Radio Sidewinder
- Other Community Radio?

What I'd really like to control is Audio Priority - the multiple breaks you get for Heat Warning, Fuel Scooping Complete, 4..3..2..1, etc., when jumping are annoying.

Priority 1 - Under Attack, Taking Heat Damage
Priority 2 - Galnet Radio
Priority 3 - Heat Warning, Landing Gear Deployed, etc.

It would be really cool to have the entirety of GalNet history in the audio. I tend to go on long jaunts into space for weeks at a time and GalNet wasn’t availabke to me out in the black until now. It would be cool to have it play like a radio station I can listen to while flying about. Not only that I’ve seen articles where FDev has said that there are/were GalNet articles that had some important info on hidden/secrets of the games story that nobody read (probably in account of the need to dock to read it at the time). Would be nice to listen and when you come across something go ‘holy crap how did we miss this.’
I wasn’t aware they stopped player created articles. When was that done? Always enjoyed those, but haven’t really been paying attention to GalNet until now.
And I agree, the series on human history articles were great.

The disruption of the feature by the COVAS is very annoying. I tried to use it, when jumping from A to B and everytime the COVAS speaks (fuelscooping, fuelscooping complete, FSD charging, 5..4...3..2... and so on) the alctual galnet articlei is been disrupted several times until it is finished.

I was thinking the same thing when I first used GalNet audio. They don’t advertise it (like a lot of little things) but in the GalNet options there is the option to turn on/off auto start and stop when COVAS speaks. That way it won’t interrupt the article.

Yes, and it was nice that they added that option. It didn't work that way in Beta and Galnet would continue to chat as traffic controllers talked to you, COVAS said things, etc. and it drowned out the GALNET audio (at least for some of us) and you'd miss bits. I like the auto-interruption. Glad they have a switch to disable that for those who don't like it.

I realize that I'm answering my own question, but if anyone is looking for a place to buy Ivona voices Amy, Brian, etc. you can get them along with Text Speaker 3.24 from here: https://www.deskshare.com/text-to-speech-voices.aspx

I'm only posting this because I've been searching (on and off) for a non-cloud version for a few months. Amazon is trying to push it all to the cloud. This was the only place I could find where you could still buy and download the voices for local/non-cloud use.
