Well good news: i just relogged & re-checked my 'suit customize' window screen and YES now i see the new rewards options available for me!!
( basically what happened was , i hadn't tried creating a brand NEW suit configuration yet . I was only trying to modify earlier existing suits i had made up weeks ago . So apparently the new rewards only show up as being choose-able if you create a brand new suit . -- Now i know better.
)
I've lost only one ship in the attempt, pretty much fun (and made some new friends!).
There is at least one that I had to scan a planet for. Not map, just visit.
I completed it after you posted this morning and got the rewards.
Might be related to the time zone since this morning I too wasn't able to complete find first listening station.
On a related note...
Has anybody found anything interesting on the planet where the trail ends?
I noticed there were a handful of interesting-looking POIs and I investigated a couple of them (starting with the most obvious one) but I didn't find anything special.
Without resorting to spoilers, based on the way the story ends it seems like there might be more to find but the stuff I saw on the surface looked a bit dull and generic.
I didn't get chance to explore all the surface POIs, though.

I assumed the reward is what you get automatically after finishing the hunt and those planet POI are the generic ones created after you scan the surface.
Again, don't really want to get into spoilers but the planetary POIs are consistent with the aftermath of what happened.
Doesn't seem, at first glance, like there's anything important going on but I was just wondering if anybody knows differently.
There's a bunch of FCs at the target planet so I guess people are investigating and I just wondered if anybody'd found anything interesting.
Never mind. I can go to sleep now.
PS: I didn't get the Trickster Apple Set, though, just like I didn't get the Trickster Pumpkin set in some past Halloween event (2021, 2022, 2023, can't remember). Oh, well. Disappointed but not surprised.

Finished the trail this morning. Good story and puzzles, and a generous payout: thanks FDev. I had some of the POI's appear spontaneously, some required NAV beacon scanning, some FSS - the inconsistency was a little frustrating and created doubt that I was in the right system.
For future treasure hunts, a bit more variety would be nice. Previous hunts with multiple code types was fun. Also variety in POIs makes for more of a sense of adventure. But makes sense for this one to be relatively simple when there's lots new to enjoy in-game (I did this one in a Mandalay ).

Not sure you can have consistency and variety at the same time.
Would be nice if FDev could find ways to add more stuff to these events, though.
Perhaps it'd be possible to, for example, have clues that get us to collect something and deliver it to a station in order to get the next clue, or explode a couple of ships before the last surviving ship hands over a clue?
I guess FDev deliberately try to keep things simple, though, so you don't end up with somebody who's flying a Sidewinder discovering that they've got to haul 100t of cargo or fight with half a dozen FDLs.
