GALNET - Jerome Archer and Nakato Kaine Increase Supporters

29 AUG 3310
Civil, commercial and political groups within the Alliance and Federation are pledging loyalty to two increasingly high-profile individuals.

Sofia Trevino published a summary for The Federal Times:

“President Zachary Hudson has long been the figurehead for a wide range of Federal communities and corporations. But as he prepares to depart the White House, many of these are transferring their allegiance to the new head of the Republican Party, Vice President Jerome Archer.”

“When Felicia Winters becomes president, Archer will take on the role of shadow president and lead the Republican opposition to the governing Liberal Party. He will effectively inherit Hudson’s political power base, which spreads across the Federation and through many independent systems. Many millions of people, including members of the Pilots’ Federation, will perform tasks and exploit local resources in order to expand Archer’s influence.”

In the Alliance, a similar situation is now being recognised, as discussed by Vanya Driscoll of The Alliance Tribune:

“Councillor Nakato Kaine is the representative for the Tionisla system and has been a vocal presence in the Assembly for several years. She ran against Prime Minister Edmund Mahon in the 3307 elections, gaining many followers despite being ultimately unsuccessful. Kaine has also directly opposed many of Mahon’s policies, particularly the strategic defence pact with Sirius Corporation, on the grounds that the Alliance’s founding principles should not bend to megacorporate influence.”

“This has led Kaine to become a rallying point for those who wish to see Allied systems governed more like the Old Worlds. She is a proponent of electoral reform that would allow the public to directly choose their leaders, rather than the Assembly voting on their behalf. Many local businesses, organisations and political bodies have been attracted by Kaine’s ambitions to transform the Alliance.”

… possibly more pp powers

I hope so. I like the concept behind the four Powers in the Empire: the Traditionalist, the Progressive, the Reactionary, and the Hawk, even though I didn’t enjoy the implementation. Both the Federation and especially the Alliance need additional Powers to better reflect internal divisions, and PowerPlay 2.0 will hopefully have mechanisms that will drive internal SuperPower conflicts.

Both the Federation and especially the Alliance need additional Powers to better reflect internal divisions,
Agreed. It's always seemed wierd that the Empire spilts 3 ways, while the Feds only split in two. Surely there should be more division opportunities where the most PP pledges are?

I like the concept behind the four Powers in the Empire:
The empire has the lore to support it, even more so with the Neo-Marlinists. Where is the comparable Fed lore? Surely some reporter who wants to make a name for themselves should be reporting on the corruption etc to help provide that division? It's a shame that the Rochesters were so thoroughly put down.

and PowerPlay 2.0 will hopefully have mechanisms that will drive internal SuperPower conflicts.
This is the key, I think.

If PP2 discourages intra-superpower conflict (or even is merely neutral on the matter) then the need to even have multiple Powers per superpower is questionable.

On the other hand if it encourages it Kaine is going to get absolutely flattened, based on her previous record in vs Mahon, vs Sirius, and even vs no-one CGs. Probably won't be the only one, but I don't think Kaine is even at Torval-level popularity and maybe Torval is planning to retire as a Power when she becomes Chancellor.

Great! Councillor Kaine certainly is astrong candidate to support for my character. But what about Marlinists? They'd make a great Empire-adjacent power for those disillusioned and disenfranchised (former) Imperials (cough-cough my character cough-cough), similar to Yuri Grom and the Feds. If my understanding is correct, there's also already a quite sizable player group supporting the Marlinist cause.

This is the key. My character is born Imp, but only thing more despicable than Hudson is Torval, and I can just about tolerate the others. But I can't sign up to eg Aisling and go harassing Torval pinkertons, because somehow they're on the same team? All the powers should be at each other's throats like rabid hyenas, even if its through subterfuge, black ops and subtle political machinations. And who's better black ops operators to wreak havoc in an "allegedly allied" power's territory than members of the galaxy's largest union of mercs, Pilots Federation?

Huh, I wasn't expecting new powers. Great for Kaine though I expect she'll still struggle as a newcomer against Mahon, the Alliance will probably stick with the default leader no matter how obviously corrupt he is...

Now I have to decide if I want Hadrian as a power, or if I'm scared Hadrian will become a power.

Actually expecting that her mysterious disease hinted several months back finally takes over...

Corrupt? No in the slightest:

You won't like what my take on this is. 😅

I kinda expect all super powers to have exactly two powers in PP2.0 to level the playing field.

Granny had a lot of Galnet cover over the last year, but surely Frontier won't dare removing Aisling. 😆

Hmmm… take an aspect of the game with richness and depth, and transform it into a shallow mockery of itself. That unfortunately sounds like Frontier’s M.O. for this game. :(

Doesn't necessarily mean an overall reduction. Maybe we'll see more independent powers instead.
