Python Mk II Released: Faulcon DeLacy announces collaboration with Achilles Aerospace

07 MAY 3310

The first ever ship built entirely around Achilles’ new Frame Shift Drive has released today, the Python Mk II. Marketing materials are pushing the tagline: “Built for Supercruise Overcharge”.

Faulcon DeLacy, the widely respected manufacturer behind this new ship, released a statement this morning:

“The original Python is an incredibly versatile ship, serving countless pilots in countless roles around the universe. For the Mk II, we wanted to create something more specialised and focused, and so we are coming to market with a ship that truly excels in battle conditions... but that’s not all.”

“Thanks to a fruitful collaboration with our friends at Achilles Aerospace, the Python Mk II has been designed from the ground up to better handle their new Frame Shift Drive.”

“It has improved heat management, better handling, reduced fuel consumption, and even better acceleration and deceleration capacity.”

“With the Python Mk II, we are breaking almost every speed record humanity has set. This is truly the flagship of a new era, and we cannot wait for you to try it.”

Faulcon DeLacy famously has a well-established relationship with the other main manufacturer of Frame Shift Drives, Sirius Corporation. Vox Galactica reached out for a comment on this announcement, but Sirius rejected the request.

Funny thing is that they said "we'll comment when we see it".
They've seen enough, but haven't commented enough (at all).

Sirius Corporation will remember that...

Yes. Achilles Aerospace have moved their FSD from an awkward and unstable prototype, to a full range of modules plus a ship specially built to handle SCO.

I wonder if the Sirius Corporation have any plans to respond, other than silently fuming?
I bet the army of lawyers of Sirius Corporation is actively trying find a way around Achilles Aerospace's patents in order to make their own knockoff version.

Some quickly-recorded bounty-hunting video with the Python 2, which I now call the Mamba Heavy after applying my usual Mamba loadout to it.

From the Fer-de-Lance I was already a bit used to having a Beam laser mounted underneath, although this one is superior because it is ahead of the Landing gear, thus not blocked when gear-boosting. I am still becoming accustomed to the Cytoscrambler hardpoint being much nearer to the middle of the starship!

So, might be a bit early for this type of question, but is there a difference in the deceleration rates of the different grades of SCO drive? EG is a C rated slower to decelerate than an A rated - it feels that way, but I'm not sure if it is actually the case. And it does matter a little bit for those treks to a distant star if you lose your overcharge speed faster with a better rated drive.

From the Galnet it looks like only the PMk2 has better integration with the LSD. Other ships will still experience the full drawbacks of the LSD.

Is my assumption correct?

I think that heat generation has been somewhat reduced for existing ships, but otherwise you are correct.
