Thargoid Titan Wreckage ‘Could Accelerate Multiple Scientific Fields’

16 OCT 3310

Aegis scientists have recently held a public forum to discuss ongoing research into the wreckage left behind by Thargoid Titans.

The Xenological Science Symposium on Procyon B 7 discussed topics including technological advances made since the start of the Second Thargoid War, their potential application to non-military industries, and hypothetical future-tech in the event of victory against the Thargoid invasion force.

Keynote speaker Professor Shamus Madigan, part of the Federal delegation to the Aegis Initiative, chose to discuss the Thargoid Titan wreckage and potential advancements from the components thus far recovered from them.

“Obviously, we’ve seen huge strides in human aerospace technology with the SCO frame shift drive. Achilles Aerospace has delivered a marvellous device which greatly amplifies the travel speeds of small spacecraft within a star system.”

“But the reality is that the scientific community is exploring further applications of this xeno material. For example, the Titans design has mastered thermodynamic efficiency. The exchange of energy to power while distributing heat away from core components is so effective it has essentially redrawn the map of our understanding.”

“If we can harness this efficiency into large-scale manufacturing, say, it’ll offer so many opportunities. Industrial installations could work harder and faster without compromising safety. Raw resources processed into finished products at higher rates could reduce consumer costs and increase accessibility.”

“It’s quite an exciting time for research, industry and corporations of all sizes.”

What do we think, Thargoid Power Plant which is essentially Overcharged and Low Emissions? That'd be a very handy thing for AX builds.

in the event of victory against the Thargoid invasion force.
Are they trying to make us think Cocijo may not be as well-behaved as the other Titans?

Reactor sounds likely considering the subject, but it could really end up being a variety of things, rather than just power plants. One other thing I can think of, off the top of my head, is the power distributor. (But what they would give it, I can't say)

Soon our ships will be more Thargoid reverse-engineered stuff than anything. Hopefully they can't take remote control of it. (I'm joking... or am I?)

Definitely that wording suggests Power distributor generally; the mention of heat could suggest Power plant, although it could also refer to the way that holding a high WEP power amount reduces weapon heat.

Prior to seeing any of that mentioned in the context of Titan salvage, some speculation here actually is a direct extension of this:

Soon our ships will be more Thargoid reverse-engineered stuff than anything.

With a fourth new starship promised and not really an obvious role for it other than perhaps a new small vessel or new really big vessel, one distant possibility could be a Human-designed Thargoid vessel which plays a central non-war role in the next part of the story.

Last paragraph of the news:

“If we can harness this efficiency into large-scale manufacturing, say, it’ll offer so many opportunities. Industrial installations could work harder and faster without compromising safety. Raw resources processed into finished products at higher rates could reduce consumer costs and increase accessibility.”

Planetside mining? But large-scale, like thargs with meta-alloys extractor-fabricators... In Elite II frontier there was Asteroid mine module which was 50 tonnes, you could leave it and done mining for you.

I would like this very much to happen. Something new, not combat/trade/exploration oriented.

This article made me think of two outcomes (which are not mutually exclusive):

  • the new feature possibly being related to manufacturing, with players being able to produce some items/commodities/who knows (using player built factories or new ship/FC modules?). Arf said something along the lines of "what the players are going to do with it" when referring to the new feature, which make me think that it's a tool.
  • a new, Thargoid based ship. I don't think that's going to be the fourth ship this year. When new ships were announced, they said "at least four ships", so I wonder whether a potential fifth ship is linked to the elimination of the last Titan.

I'm normally (very) wrong with all my predictions, so I wonder if I am jinxing it for anyone who might be interested in those two outcomes 🤔

It could be a variation of the fleet carrier but one which can land on a planetary surface then assemble the rest of itself from available materials to become a defacto mini-settlement.

Lots of possible issues though with the idea, so it's a long shot.

Heads up - FD is winding down the Titan storyline (I think).

Please predict base building/management.

I read the Galnet article carefully and am sure that with a little careful reordering of the letters it says base building soon tm.
