GalNet - Thargoids "moving in the direction of the core systems"

Today on GalNet:
As with previous Thargoid assaults, the attacks have caused significant damage and resulted in huge numbers of casualties.

A member of starport personnel at Kipling Orbital offered the following:

“It seems the Thargoids are sweeping the region, moving slowly in the direction of the core systems. But why?”

First, yes it is a just something a member of starport personnel said. Could be wrong.

But, if I'm not mistaken, this is the first time FDev directly mentions that Thargoids could move into the core systems (ignoring Beta, which could be just for testing purposes).

This significant in my opinion, because Thargoids inside the core systems will make them less optional and moving them more into the view of all players.
I think this indicates that the Thargoids won't be restricted to the Pleiades and that they will indeed affect all players in the future. Making Thargoid interference unavoidable.

This could have a huge impact on the way players play and can play the game. It could potentially completely change the "mood" of the game.
This is going to be interesting.

Depends, since we can't do anything about it, it just happens on Thursdays.

Then it will be going to be interesting on Thursdays, but if the Thargoids will indeed affect large parts of the game and player base it will change things and, at least to me, it will be interesting how the player base reacts and how it will affect the overall game.

The playerbase naysayers who want to trade undisturbed by Thargoids should just suck it up imho.
I think the new Thargoid scouts are perfect for encounters within the bubble.

In the original Elite we were attacked by Thargoids all the time, unprovoked, it was just part of the game and personally I think it could or should be part of ED just as well.

They call it "Beyond" for a reason, I guess. Thargoids attacking beyond the Pleiades. Hopefully there will be a few interesting story bits attached and not just more stations in repair forever.

Good!

I want to enjoy the Thargoid content, but making a 300-400ly trip for it is the opposite of fun. Lol

Let the bubble burn!

Non combatants can move to Colonia. :p

This is going to be interesting.

The encounters are still going to mainly be through Alien USS's so still mostly optional. :)

Sounds plausible. Unless, I guess, we're talking "sweeping" like with a broom: "*Rshhhhhhhhhwitt!* There! Back with you where you came from, meatbags." :p

Direct interaction might be optional, but the "global" effect might affect everybody.

The setting of the game could change to something very different. The current setting of the game is a galaxy in a very normal/standard situation.
This could change into a different setting - "galaxy at war"/"alien invasion". Such a different setting would affect a lot of aspects of the game - unless it is really completely contained in absolutely optional USS.

Why? What can we do about that?

Because something changed.

Why the fixation on changes getting applied at a fixed day?
That changes get applied to the galaxy on a fixed day doesn't mean that those changes aren't the result of player interaction.
And even if these changes aren't the result of player interaction it doesn't mean that they can't have an impact on the gameplay.

Or they could leave the game, and I'm sure you'd say, "Don't forget to close the door on your way out!"

But FDev would be saying, "Why have Game Extra sales dropped? Why aren't we selling as many expansion packs as we thought we would?"

You think this is a game; but it's actually a business. You may not understand this, but FDev surely does. They're not looking to do things that will cost them customers.

The Thargoids may well move into the bubble; but it's a big bubble, and I'm confident that FDev will make sure that players who don't want to participate in the Thargoid storyline are affected by the move not much or not at all.

The fixed date isn't much of a problem. The uncertainty if player interaction matters is much more of a problem for me. What impact on gameplay does it currently have? Damaged star ports and some interdictions are the only possible changes, atm. I am really not looking forward getting my home base destroyed without anything I can do about it, only until afterwards, when a huge unrewarding grinds awaits.

Its just a lame, lazy approach to content introduction, not interactive at all (station is suddenly burning after a magical update). I found the first ones intriguing, since the goids were doing surprise attacks. Now its no longer a surprise, just another dice roll from Fdev laughin their arses off with the money we poured in from buying cosmetics. Sad to see this is all there is to it.

Yup, exactly.

Come on man, those Thargoid scouts aren't more dangerous then when you're being interdicted by an npc.

The Thargoids are part of what ED is and Elite has always been and in my personal opinion that should be accepted as part of the game.
I'm surprised the Thargoids weren't introduced at the beginning of ED.

You could make all features of the game optional for those who don't want this or that, what kind of game would you get then?

I'm not talking about an insta kill Thargoid messing things up, FD would never do that, I'm talking about the identity of Elite.
There are so many players saying that they have no interest in the whole Thargoid thing but that Thargoid thing has always been part of Elite and I think that ED shouldn't be different in that respect.

There is a big different between "going to the bubble" and "moving slowly in the direction of the core systems", even if the bubble is in its way to the core systems. Tin-foil theory, they might not been attacking us but clearing a pathway for something else.
