Titan Survivors Kept in Quarantine

23 OCT 3309

Thousands of people rescued from captivity within the Thargoid motherships remain isolated under strict medical and security protocols.
Professor Alba Tesreau, head of Aegis, spoke at a press conference:

“I’m relieved to see that the sub-surface extraction missiles are proving effective, especially considering how quickly they went into production. Many pilots are using them to excavate bio-storage capsules from beneath the hulls of the Thargoid Titans.”

“Each resuscitated individual has undergone an exhaustive range of physical scans and psychological evaluations. Some are being treated for stress-related conditions and mental trauma, but otherwise they appear to be unharmed. With no clear evidence that these people have been infected or influenced by the Thargoids in some manner, Aegis has sent a number of proposals to superpower governments as they consider the next steps.”

Despite this announcement, everyone extracted from a bio-storage capsule remains under military quarantine. The Alliance, Empire, Federation and independent factions have all instructed that any citizen who was abducted by Thargoids must be kept in high-security isolation until further notice.

As discussed by reporter Ernesto Rios for Vox Galactica:

“There is widespread concern that whatever the Thargoids had planned for their human captives was set in motion before rescue efforts began. While scientific analysis of the captives disputes this notion – as all results have thus far – the returnees may face prejudice and mistrust when they are permitted to rejoin society.”

In related news, there are reports that the Thargoid barnacle matrix sites have recently undergone enormous growth, with sightings of ‘towering spires’ and similar megastructures. Aegis and other scientific bodies have sent analysis teams to all known sites to gather data.

Because Galnet articles have not been posted recently and because I miss browsing the discussion around them, here is the article from today! I hope @GraphiteGB is well, and perhaps some day able once again to echo Galnet more promptly than I can!

I recall considering a few options for survivors previously and a few different possible responses from individual factions, and admittedly I thought there would be more contrast rather than widespread mistrust.

Either way, at the time I imagined the idea of survivor colonies, and I think that seems quite applicable now! Exploration data ought to reveal candidate systems and planets, where the system itself would be the quarantine zone, and the Earth-like or terraformed planets would make for perfectly pleasant homes.

The fate of the survivors may not be a happy one. The "noise" cuts in today's FSL might indicate future terror for them or those surrounding them. Halloween could have some interesting surprises!

I don’t think it is all that surprising - we are at war with the Thargoids, after all, and it might not be past them to try creating sleeper agents to spy or sabotage from behind our lines(at least, not until we know what their purpose for the captives is). Or… whatever falls under the category of ‘infected’. A virus or pathological agent to kill humans? Something else entirely?

Most people would probably also not quite get over their primal instincts in this regard, even if there were no war, because they might not be quite ‘human’ any more - from a biological standpoint, at least, if they were altered in any way.

Either way, at the time I imagined the idea of survivor colonies, and I think that seems quite applicable now!
I’m not sure those survivors would like to continue being isolated in that manner, as it would create a “Us vs Them” type of barrier/situation, (possibly) leaving them feeling shunned by society. And being there might not necessarily reveal if any of them are under Thargoid influence in any way, as they might be aware of this continued isolation, and just wait for the right moment to flick a switch in the affected people’s brains.

… it’s still a very unfortunate situation(my other choice of words would not pass the forum filters). Even as one that has made their character’s roleplay background… well, basically this(with the added caveat of very definitely not being quite human, and it being a known factor), I can see a necessity to ensure that the rescued people are safe to allow a return to society to(or is it for? grammar knowledge failing).

@Aleks Zuno

Exciting to see the follow up on rescues and what may happen amidst all this human sampling. All this timing for Halloween does bring some expectations...

I will have to watch that this evening—as with Galnet, the way that news from Frontier appears in the afternoon always leaves ample time for everyone to become far ahead of me!

If you want to watch the whole thing (providing you haven’t already), it’s definitely a good idea to do so. If you are stricken for time(or want reference points for the ‘interruptions’) - [not timestamped]
23:10,
31:51,
(strange distorted radio sound at 43:29 that I'm not sure if it has any meaning)
52:24,
(random object drop[?] at 1:04:05)
1:09:57,
1:18:48(what even is that sound?),
1:27:04,
1:29:51,
and at the end from 1:35:55.
(Yes, I just did that)

Also from 1:22:45 to 1:23:22.

So it would be logical for Azimuth to offer these people asylum and good living conditions, of course, on the condition that they agree to various tests.

Wait, wasn't this supposed to be this Thursday? Did I miss it?

It was the Frameshift Live Halloween Special, indeed on a weekday unpredictable without looking at the schedule!

To get back to @Kira Goto, the audio there does contain at least one message, although any analysis by the Imperial Navy mathematics department will have to wait a bit. Unless others have done so already though, I see no immediate connection between that and anything mentioned in Galnet! For the moment I can believe such messages are spoken as Frontier or about Elite; less so that they actually interact with the story somehow.

There is nothing obvious, which I suspect to be the intention - but let’s just use a little imagination here. A GalNet about the Titan survivors being perfectly fine has been published (on Monday, the same day as the stream)… and you’ve got two humans acting kind of strange and/or in distraught manner on that stream, where they have been known to drop hints for stuff before.

Could it be in relation to the Halloween event this week(as mentioned in stream)? Perhaps, seeing the figure that shows up at the end of said stream. But it could also be a hint that the former abducted aren’t quite so fine.

Or the Halloween event has to do with them. We’ll see. My bets are on this strange acting up and the sound/noise interruptions having to do with the Titan survivors.
