Thank you, sir! By the way, EDDI only provides an update when something new is posted. You can't just access GalNet news like your app does. I think ED Toolbox does more, but I don't use it... yet. I look forward to your response after you've had a chance to look things over. There is no rush, so please take your time. So ... It looks like Frontier doesn't publish any weekly summary, which is the reason why my script couldn't find anything. The single news items still work fine though, so I didn't have to change much, mostly just disabling "weekly" :/
As a bonus, as I really like the way EDDI does it, Weekly Expansion and Conflict reports will be skipped automatically as they really don't make much sense as spoken news item.
The new version can be found at https://www.cosmic-bandito.com/galnewsreader_4.1.7.7z (md5: 02be8f65dd50a97ac773d1e6224b2019, ~2MB big. This is my private server, so please don't abuse it!).
The installation is explained in the README.TXT file, but, as I just remembered, I wrote an alternative explanation on how to install : here
Also : I apparently wrote this in 2014 ... I feel old now

just bumping for visibility, as a new version is out. I got fed up to listen for interesting news items hidden between all the automated reports and updates, so those are now completely ignored and you should only get the juicy pieces

Just wanted to say, works like a charm, but it would be nice if it could cut down on some of the fluff
For example
Item 1 - Stardate April 29 3303 - Headline - Galacitic News - Generation Ship Found.
If there was a way it could cut out "Headline" (which appears on every single line regardless) it wouldn't sound so cluttered? Perhaps the year as well? It makes it so you're listening to a lot of nothing before getting to the actual info. (Three Thousand Three Hundred and Three, for example... not bad when seen, but loooong when said over and over)

Also, I found the first report repeated (about the generation ships) in the headlines (was item 1 and 2). Might want to check and see if that's a glitch. Will let you know if it keeps happening in the future.

I just modified the code to strip most of the redundant stuff. I still kept all prefixes different from "Galactic News:", as they are needed information.
The current ouput is :
I'll pack it up,upload it to the server and update the link in a minute.
