Game is laggy

I did few runs to planets and stations last night, all was smooth. Dunno today, hope all good cus off work tomorow planning a late night pirating sesh😎

We´ve seen it before many times and we´ll see it again many times. The problem is on FD´s side. Everytime the game needs transaction server activity it lags, i.e. entering or leaving hyperspace, transferring data like bounties etc. Don´t know whats behind it, server capacity or whatnot. FD won´t admit, that it is on their side, they never did before. Some fine day in the future we may see the game running normal again, but there won´t be an explanation, like: sorry guys, we had some server problems concerning players in Europe due to the amount of players entering the game via EPIC, because we didn´t think about the server load. There´s no need to screw your computers, that won´t solve the problem. Sit and wait. Or stop playing. It really sucks..

I'm still experiencing these lag problems. Sometimes a FSD jump works as usual, sometimes it takes "ages" like 30 seconds or so. Same with opening the system map. Also, when scanning a system for the first time, it takes time before all planets are visible in the system map.

There seems also to be a problem with Codex updates. My number of detailed scans in the exploration tab hasn't changed for days, while I was constantly scanning with the FSS.

FDev, fix your game before adding new features!

I'd say server issue, not the game itself, but agree, a lot of yellow adders and scarlet kreits recently :/

Damn I hate snakes

Definitely server issue. Get yourself a vpn and set your IP to UK. That solved it for me. The server for your region seems to be crappy. Don´t know, why Frontier doesn´t move their butts..

I am in Uk but past week in the evenings it was a carnage... daytime smooth as a whistle

This. German Telekom is notorious for bad routing, not just ED. Using NordVPN helped in such cases. (Don't forget to set the adapter to use in the game settings)
If those issues happen to coincide with Minecraft Realms, it's the bad routing to Amazon AWS.

Anything new on this ?

I returned to the game about a week ago and experienced several lags in the response time on some "actions". e.g. landing on my fleet carrier, you hear the docking clamps but nothing happens and the ship finally "settles down" about 20-30 seconds later, extremely bad response times when using the galaxy map or try to open a system from there, exploration results are delayed, gathering materials on planets, UI menues, etc.

I tried various solutions from here, but I'm fairly sure that the problem is not or not solely on my side. Maybe someone can point me to the correct IP for a pingplotter test to see if there's a problem and eventually where? At least from the readings in the network section I'd say my ping is somewhat bad at the moment, but honestly I never paid attention to that before as everything worked fairly well. At least until now...
"Funny" to see, that ED is of the opinion my Fritz!Box 7590 is not capable of UPnP and has it disabled. But honestly a manual port forwarding in the game and the Fritz! didn't solve anything in my eyes, the lags and behaviour of the game are as good/bad as before.

btw germany, 1&1, 100MBit

FDev uses AWS's EC2 in Dublin to run the game, that's AWS region eu-west-1. There are several Internet tools to check the connectivity to AWS regions & services:
http://awsspeedtest.xvf.dk
http://cloudharmony.com/speedtest-for-aws:ec2-eu-west-1

You may also check the network connections on your PC and you'll see that the ED executable connects to EC2 eu-west-1 addresses.

I've got no idea why, but when i'm trying to enter fsd mode, it just stops at the end of the count down and nothing happens. Then it shows orange sidewinder erorr

Double Paid Traffic, obsolete for Hetzner, for many other hosters like AWS still a reality. Not limited to Deutsche Telekom. Many other ISPs are also guilty of this kind of breach of net neutrality.

Also, the issue is more pronounced for reseller ISPs as they are not only at the whim of the owner ISP's peering policy, but also to limitations and deprioritization concerning backbone traffic.

Solution: Change ISP (preferably a direct carrier) or use a paid VPN. Frontier can't be expected to pay 1000s of ISPs.

PSA: If you think the PWA is bugged again, the issue above (ISP peering policy) may be the reason why. PWA results are very demanding on latency.

Today I installed a VPN service (NordVPN) as @Ettanin recommended. All lags and delays were immediately gone.

So, it's my ISP's peering policy.

More information about these dubious policies can be found here:

Btw I considered to also take a VPN but I've tried another way today and manually enabled ED's use of IPv6 ... (posting here)

I went that way because 1&1 uses DS-Lite tunneling (like most ISPs today, I guess) and my thoughts went about "why taking a deviation over two encrypted tunnel connections, when I can establish a direct IPv6 connection to the ED servers ?"

For now and for me it works like a charm, never had ED connect so fast to the servers and all my lagging is gone. Fast menues and the galaxy map... simply wow !

Ok, of course this needs further testing, expecially what happens at prime times and I have no clue if and how this might influence p2p connections to other players, as I normally play in solo.

Regards T. and a happy new year to all of you

Also tried the solution @Kimosabe_X recommended and activated IPv6 in ED. What can I say, it works. No lags or delays as seen without VPN or IPv6. As this is the more cost-effective solution I will cancel NordVPN's service.

My ISP is 1&1 Versatel in Germany, 100 Mb VDSL. Versatel seems to have better peering than Telekom. Their bandwidth to the main IX in Europe is far better, for example 400G to AMS IX while Telekom just has 10G.

Telekom: https://www.peeringdb.com/net/196
