Game launcher continously trying to access my floppy drive ? Won't install without it

My system is unchanged since the betas and the beta installers didn't have this problem.

If it was the launcher then lots of people would be having the same problems. The only time I've seen this kind of thing happen in the past it has been because of a virus/malware infection.

Thanks for the first bit of constructive help. Interestingly in the appdata/local there was "Frontier_Developments", "Frontier Developments" and "Frontier-Developments"
I deleted all three, deleted the program files folder rebooted and did a clean install.
Now I don't have as many errors (they're still popping up though - about the A: drive bay door) but my download speed is now stuck at 0Mb/s. At least before it was downloading something, now it's downloading nothing. I've opened a support ticket.

Ugh.

All the pleasure of having been on the beta program was just undone by a broken release installer :(
It es me off because I would expect this from someone like Electronic Arts, but having gone all the way through from the first kickstarter, through all the betas to the release without a single real problem, to get to today and find I can't even install the release is kick in balls.

So the installer is broken but no one else is having this problem?

Hmmm, ok have you tried setting your Bios to fail safe defaults, honestly the number of computers I get to fix becuase of Bios settings is crazy. One of the other main issues in the SATA drive set up, is it set to IDE mode rather than RAID or AHCI..?

Also, you may want to search regedit for any entries of elite.

Failing all else maybe a system restore..?

OP, what do you mean by "floppy drive"? Do you mean hard drive or do you have a computer with insanely outdated memory hardware? Please use proper vocabulary if looking for help. And if you are actually using floppy disks, you should really get a HDD or SSD.

Wow this thread makes me happy that I didn't plug in my USB floppy drive, at anypoint in the last week or so. I was seriously thinking of handing in my computer science final project on a 3.5" disk just for kicks. Maybe next semester.

I love floppy disks. They are just as good as CD's, they just don't hold as much. They're the same quality. Am I right?

Come on people they guy is obviously having issues and all the joking post aren't helping an obviously stressed out commander, lets get him back in to space.

Out of curiosity I installed ED and have encountered the same problem as the OP.

During installation of ED my floppy was constantly accessed. I stuffed an empty floppy disk into it so that it at least stayed relatively quiet.

Now that ED is installed, I get the following behaviour:

When the launcher is started, occasionally the floppy is accessed.
When I start the game, the floppy stays quiet, even though the launcher is still open in the background.

@OP: Did you create a ticket?
If not I will do it.

PS: I have both a 3'5 and a 5'25 floppy built in my computer. However, the BIOS supports only one so only the 3'5 is plugged in right now.

I'd be very worried about having that 3rd folder. I've only ever seen the 1st 2 on my machine.

What launcher?
I had to type
LOAD"Elite",8,1
ant then "run"

All is fine.

No stutters, clear white frames on black Space!

I ran the launcher for the first time in a few weeks today to grab the update to the full game and it's just been hammering my A: (floppy) drive like crazy (sounds like a machine gun - like it's continuously starting and stopping the drive motor). The launcher stalls out while it's spamming the drive and only when the drive goes quiet does the launcher start trying to sync files again. So far it's taken 4 hours trying to sync files to launch the game so I gave up and opened up my PC and unplugged the floppy.
Now the launcher just gives me endless error messages about the "A: Drive door is open - close drive door to continue". My machine doesn't have an A: Drive - I unplugged it - but now the launcher won't do anything.
I know this was reported in the Gamma forums but the thread is short and was closed without resolution (https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=73404)

What gives? Why does the launcher need to access the floppy drive while syncing files off the server?
And how can I Get around this so I can actually install and play the game?

You still have a floppy ?
