Game loses something by not forcing Open play

I had a post yesterday asking why use open play, and it turns out the only reason is to gank or be ganked.

But the fact you can advance in the game running solo only, imho, really makes the game lose something.

A lot of the fun of Eve is the fact that the risk is always there, and the level of risk is reflected in the level of reward.

But in ED, you can go do everything with no risk. (Interdiction by NPC's isn't a risk, its easy to avoid).

I really wish you could only advance in Open play, or that Open money/ships/reputation were separate from Solo money/ships/reputation.

Yes, I know some don't want to have to deal with other players, great, there is a solo mode.

But the fact that solo and open are tied together means you can play in complete safety, get your uber ship, then jump into open.

Really feels like the game is losing some of its potential by having a 100% safe mode.

It is often forgotten that private groups enjoy the benefits of multi-player without either the isolation of solo or the disadvantage of encountering a particular type of player on open....

absolutely agree with you solo play should not affect open , if you cant accept the risk then you should not be able advance or affect open play .

yes, something is lost. i know - lets get them to remove open play! then there wont be a problem any more!

yes, i know people will hate this idea, with as much passion as those who prefer solo would hate to be forced into open play. let people play how they want, it matters not one bit where others play - that's their choice to make.

Here is the real answer, I have been playing just in open since Gamma launched, I am doing missions/ bounty hunting. I am currently 36 ly from where I started and I have not seen another player for the last eight days so it would make no difference if I were to play open or solo. So OP your post is really pointless and there are plenty of threads on the same subject that you could have posted on so get back under your bridge.

The solution we have ended up with for solo and open play is not really what anyone wanted.
A completely offline mode and an open world online game is what everyone would have prefered but now we are getting a single player game that needs to access the internet, and an opt out for the online game.

I think this is as people are so concerned about the EVE effect (me included) of the "join my gang and let go beat up some carebears" mentality.

I prefer solo right now because the game is more stable in solo. If the game consisted of a couple of star systems, I could see the OPs point. But it's vast, which means running into other human players will not be all that common, unless you knowingly go where they are.

Just because Frontier are not going the direction of using separate Solo and Multi commanders doesn't mean it's a heresy. It's not a terrible idea, it's just a different one. It's also a reasonably obvious one.

Is it so crazy if someone brings it up every now and again?

The ability to play open, with friends (private groups) or alone (solo-online) has been part of the stated game design for over two years now - it should not come as a surprise to anyone who has bothered to carry out any basic research into the game.

Are you just PO'd you wont be able to harass people? Poor baby.

Here we go again another game the same pvp Vs pve arguements.

PVP want everyone available to them to kill interupt annoy troll gank call it what you will, pVe players want none of that therefore play in solo or group mode more often(potentially) than open mode, so they dont get ganked trolled etc. This makes the PvP players unhappy because they have a limited pool of people to play against, oh sorry gank.... So therefore they cryout that everyone should be put where they can attack them.

Please note, this is meant as tongue in cheek and not an attack against anyone, but having been playing games for a long time, this is the ongoing pattern of what happens between PvP players and PvE players or as PvP Players see it, Themselves V Targets, and PvE Players see it as Nuiscances Vs themselves potentially driing them away to look for another game. And how many purely PvP games have evolved out of the same game starting as a mix of PvP/PvE. I dont know of any. Pure PvP games work because they are balanced for that playstyle and you play them expecting to die a lot. Games like this not so much.

So yeah a ramble. but essentially just a reopening on the same old arguement that has been seen on so many Forums for so many games before.
