Nevertheless, trotting out the old “So you want an I win button” is neither a public critique nor a researched response.
Except, that wasn't done here.
And if talking about the other thread, answers were given in the end, by more than one user. Still met with names and disdain though.
Some people don't want discussion or opinions, rather, their own opinion restated.

Nevertheless, trotting out the old “So you want an I win button” is neither a public critique nor a researched response.

It’s a lazy response by lazy-minded people who aren’t smart enough to come up with a proper counter-argument and who repeatedly demonstrate a lack of self-awareness and capacity for rational discourse.

In other words: everyone’s entitled to their opinion, but some opinions do not need to be considered because the person who expresses them lacks the capacity for basic reasoning.
...Except there was more to the post you're referencing than "so you want an I win button". It's easy to claim something has no relevance if you remove all the context surrounding it.

Speaking of lazy responses, aye?

Look at posts by users who repeatedly use the ‘I win’ argument, and you’ll know what I mean.

Anyone who uses the “So you want an I win button” argument deserves the disdain they are met with.

It must be very convenient for you to base all of your responses on a grudge, rather than the content and context of their reply. Must be a huge time-saver.

If they were willing to enter into a rational discussion around the content and context of their posts, then I wouldn’t have an issue with it.

Besides what would we win when we press the “I win” button anyway?

Considering you removed all rational discussion so you could criticize their post including "I win button", that's clearly not true. You're even taking issue with it in an entirely different thread.

Except there is that. And it's still met with disdain because it doesn't concur with the suggestion.
But if the focus is going to stay elsewhere and responses can be brushed off because they're not the 'right one', then exception can and will be held with anything.

So what would we win when we press the “I win” button?
Apparently, the pretense that you care about the rationale of a post, while discarding the rationale of a post so you can criticize it's lack of rationale.

If you wanted to know more, you would have read the entire post you were complaining about, but you didn't get past the first sentence.

To be fair, it’s hard to get past the first sentence when it’s repeatedly followed by poor arguments or poor discussion (or sometimes no response at all) from the posters in question.

And still no one’s answered the real question here: what do we win when we press the “I win” button??

That's not what you were saying at all:
If they were willing to enter into a rational discussion around the content and context of their posts, then I wouldn’t have an issue with it.
You were saying there was no discussion or content given. It seems like your point is quickly sliding to try and catch up with anything that can pass as reasonable, after attempting to make a boldly false claim.

You were saying there was no discussion or content given.
A discussion requires 2-way conversation where both parties respond to and address points made by the other party. That wasn't happening in the case above.

Historically, users who have used the "I win button" trope don't address points made by other people (as was the case in the discussion you referenced). If those users won't enter into a discussion, then what's the point in addressing their opinions?

So anyway, what do we win when we press the “I win” button?

Soo many times I wish I could say to some pedant "you know what I mean" but no. It's never that easy ;) Hyperbole works for effect, it doesn't work when it isn't obvious (Poe's law) or is otherwise taken literally.

When someone talks about an "I win Button" I just interpret that as "this is something I think should be harder than you want it to be".

Interesting that you're holding one person responsible for a 2-person interaction not taking place.

Let's look at the thoughtful responses given:
Oh jeez, get a grip @Lestat!
The complaint that's it's an "i win" feature is simply idiotic.
Really thought-provoking stuff.

You're just carrying a little grudge. Though this thread seems to exist solely for the purpose of carrying the frustrations of those who are upset that their subjective feelings are incompatible with the objective realities that others respond with.

That's because you are only looking at that conversation thread in isolation and haven't experienced the many other previous conversation threads where we have tried (and failed) to engage with the user in question.

You tend to stop bothering after a while because it's annoying and a waste of time.

Just like I'm sure you're starting to get annoyed by my repeatedly asking what we win when we press the 'I win' button (which still hasn't been answered yet).

If you look at my other conversations, you'll (hopefully) see that I'm pretty happy to engage in rational discourse where possible. And if you look at Lestat's conversation history you can judge for yourself which of the 2 of us is contributing most positively to the discussion forum.

So yes, you're carrying a grudge. Mkay.

Unintentional foreshadowing, eh?

Because it's a uselessly distracting question that has nothing to do with the topic.

Oh, I find that hard to believe. There's this example, where you respond to an argument by just ignoring it and accusing them of being somebody else. Or here, where you simply dismiss an argument because you "don't buy it", but don't really refute it. Or this gem, where you tell somebody their opinion is invalid because Frontier once mentioned it, instead of making any rational argument. I could go on, but I don't want to, and there's no real purpose in it. But, proving the point.

I don't really see you raising much in the way of discussion at all. I've seen plenty of responses with reasons and you just brush them off. This thread is a monument to behavior like that. As if nobody could possibly disagree with an opinion unless this other party is under some mistaken pretense. As if disagreement is some sort of insolence.

Meh - suit yourself. People only see what they want to see I guess. 🤷‍♂️

By the way - what do we win when we press the 'I win' button?
