Gamescom 2018

No one is arguing there were delays, it is just that it was not delayed a full year as you stated. I am not entirely sure either why people keep arguing something as obviously false as that but there you go.

Even in the case 2.4 had been stated as "winter" (which it was not) the delay overall would have been at most 6 months (March to September). Not one year. As things and delays go in the games industry, specially considering other space sim genre products, this is probably among best in class delivery actually.

Yeah fair point, me saying a 1-year delay was a bit off since 2.4 released in September and Horizons released December 2015 (not exactly a full two years since the launch but close enough). And yeah we don't know when 2.4 would have released if the plan had been kept to so it could have dropped in January, it could have dropped in April. We'll never know.

I checked our previous comments and this whole argument could have been avoided if I'd have realised my mistake at first and corrected myself, but ahh well it doesn't matter now.

I thought you were arguing about my initial point about the delay contributing to the feeling of slow development and having on overall impact on Elites schedule, as in I thought you were arguing against there being a delay. My apologies for misunderstanding. Suppose it's what happens when you read comments too fast [big grin]

No worries :) Delays there have been indeed. My goal there was not to argue their merits or lack thereof, I just wanted to point out some cold figure facts as I see several patrons repeatedly using false figures to add further drama to their points.

Lasers (both of them), multicannons, railguns, plasma launchers, several PP weapons, cannons, frag cannons.

1. there are three laser types: Pulse, burst and beam
-> huge burst lasers are silly because the RoF of the "burst" is only minimal higher then that of a pulse laser that size

2. large cannon turrets are silly, because they are the second most expensive hardpoint in the game for a mere 105 shots with lower damage and so slow projectiles that the target computer wont bring to its destination

3. frags are silly overpowered in the right hands and with certain engineering options -> but the turreted versions suffer the same issue as cannon turrets.

so, whats silly about large missile launcher hardpoints?

Nothing "silly" about having more choices available for loadouts. The more the merrier.

Some seem to be afraid it will throw a wrench in their "meta" builds and others might actually have something that varies but works better for their own style.

Don't like them? Don't use them.

I think it's great that Frontier is shaking the tree a bit- after all, we see a lot of "stagnation" complaints in the forums.

1º I forgot, I meant all three.

2º Turrets yes, gimballed & fixed no though credits are so easy to win that money isn't an issue

3º Same as #2.

They are silly because they run out of ammo pretty quick & because pack hounds just hands out beat them.

hmm, fact comparison:
packhounds combined damage is 137 x 7.5 = 990
seeker combined damage is 24 x 40 =960 (less then one shot lower damage)

packhounds fire 6 every 3 seconds
seeker fire 1 every 3 second

and you say you would run out of seeker faster then packhounds? how?
sounds more like you are using seeker wrong, and because of that you blame the DEVs for adding another size hardpoint of them to the game that YOU can't use?

I don't think you'll be shooting missiles for some minutes straight and one must say that missiles are easily destroyed with Point Defence Turrets or disabled with ECMs. I must add that Packhounds have higher DPS as well.

the higher dps of packhounds comes from shooting more missiles in shorter time... aka you run out of missiles faster due to more overkill. because of that, your point was pretty moot about that.
packhounds also generate as much heat as they do damage.
and you have to show me the npc that is using its ECM... never seen it.

They still have point defence turrets.

I really hope there are lots of QoL changes, to UI and such like. I don’t care for all the alien stuff and associated ship weapons.

Flimley

Cant' wait to discover those Guardian fighters.
you don't discover them.

you will be told when and where and how to grind the unlock materials for them,
either in the patchnotes or another way (like first guardian unlocks: official livestream explaining the miningame in detail)
and then you unlock them at any of the hundreds of guardian tech broker... one by one

If you don't watch live stream or read patch notes?

If we are talking about combat I would like to see these things:

* Improvements in NPC meta strategy - I like MoM's work overall, but there are some logic errors and not enough variety in strategy from NPCs. That clearly can be improved and extended upon;
* Improvements in NPC persistance - pursuit, follow up, reactions between interactions of NPCs are currently reset after each visit. However it would be cool if you would use some sort of weapon and NPC would remember it for next time and counter it;

And I know why weapons are so easy to roll out and develop at the moment. And why things I mentioned aren't that easy to improve. Still though.
