Gamescom expectations

Hi, i read a lot of threads about PL Gamescom expectations, and almost all this threads are.. "OMG planetary landings, omg a ship, stations walk around" is that really what you want to see? I mean "Elite" has a really huge game core mechanic mistakes, like Open vs Solo, Combat Log Off,Cheaters, PVP boring tactic, lack of weapons balance and lot of other things. So all this things is less imp. than a planetary landings and stations walk around?

Well I guess people (myself included) want more content, more in-game assets, some more depth in the galaxy. What you mention as important are just bug fixes, and bug fixes aren't worthy if pompous announcements at gamescon, just fixing problems that should not exist in the firstplace. It doesn't mena they-re not important, bugfixing should always take precedence over new features. But the game is still too empty and somewhat shallow, and people get excited for new things, not just fixing what is wrong now.

Things i mentioned is not "Game bugs" its core game mechanic, you cannot fix combat log off at this point. What im really want to see is "Elite" Server based game not P2P, PL that play "Elite" and have some combat flight sim exp helping FD to make PvP less arcade not CQC.

True, but FD cannot stop things like combat logging as its impossible. They can only try to improve its detection and punish cheaters when they detect them.

I too would like the game to be more "simulation-like" and not so "arcade-ish" on some of its components, but many people are already complaining that some things in the game are too difficult, like npc combat, docking, undocking, etc... Guess a large part of Elite players are playing the game as a very casual game and in an extremely automated manner, and I fear FD are lining the game's future a bit more towards those players, and ditching the more "simulation" gameplay fans like me or you.

But I would also like other things to make the galaxy feel less empty, and more "alive" and populated.

More stations, more interiors, not just different colors, actually different interiors that require different ways to dock, more mission types, more profitable activities like salvaging, refuelling, distress calls etc, more interaction, more difference between empire / federation / alliance space, superpower and major faction capital systems who look the part, different "hostility states" between factions instead of the current "hostile everywhere else", battles that could be won or lost instead of endlless spawning, station docking that was more than just mere pit-stops, more sounds, a bunch of human voices on npc / station comms, large ships parked outside of stations, actually being able to see the faction leaders in transit or parked in stations in their huge, heavily escorted ships, etc etc. Things to see, things to do :)

If FD cannot stop combat log off and cheaters in future, its a serious problem then. Its not about "sim like" or "arcade like".. Arcade fly style can be a skill and tactic depending too, but "Elite" just dont have it, it's all about hitting FAN off and 180 deg. flip. I personally dont get it how you can have FAoff ( more turret like ) and FAon ( more Plane like) in one game.

Much of your concern is embedded in design choice and your perception that they are mistakes!

Open/Solo is a game design choice - Personally I think this is a really novel move and its interesting to see how it plays out.

Combat Log and Cheaters - P2P design choice makes this inevitable

PVP boring tactic - Not sure what you mean?

Weapons balance - This will be an on going element for the duration of the game.

In my view the game needs more content and Planet landings would add a stack. Every time you add something you generate bugs and potentially balance problems, so you hit the showstoppers and live with the rest, hitting them as time allows.

I'm excited for whatever is announced... even if they announce a complete rebalance and tweaking of existing content. Though I personally think those things happen over time, and don't really agree with the hostility the community dish out over it. I think powerplay needs a serious looking at, but I think they are getting to a point where they will be able make intelligent decisions on that, hopefully. I'm not expecting planetary landings, or walking in ships, both would be very exciting, but unlikely I feel. A big mission system overhaul with the inclusion of passenger kit and missions might be more likely, as the mission restructure in 1.3 has been described as changing the way they work at the foundation, to allow for bigger changes going forward.

1. Its like "Easy" and "Hard" mode then? So why they connected?
2. So the "P2P design choice" include combat log off and cheaters?
3. "Boost" "FAoff" "Flip" or you have found more effective?
4. The only thing they do now for weapon balance, is ammo limit for some of them.

Expectation?

Weapon balance - your version of balance won't be another's. FDEV will never win

NPC Combat - change coming in the next update and apparently it will be A LOT harder

Combat logging - if you can detect a reliable way to determine if someone has removed their LAN cable/blocked a port on a firewall, or has a genuine connection problem, you'll make a fortune

Solo, Open (you forgot groups) - meh

I DO NOT want planetary landings.

Better mission system, background sim, fixed ranking, the inevitable AI improvements by she-who-shall-not-be-named, player-driven settling of unoccupied systems, X-Large landing pads and the stations to provide them, ships for said X-Large pads and, of course, bug fixes.

I suspect with the 1.4 release which includes but is not limited to CQC and the Gamescom reveal there will be a sizeable increase in improvements to various areas. Some people don't want any expansions until x, y, z is fixed, but that's not going to happen as you can't have and won't have 100 people all doing the same tasks. Not possible and financial suicide, even if it were.

If the Gamescom reveal is PLanding, or some variation such as flight down to and over moons then it's likely not going to be released anytime soon after 1.4. So plenty more time between for additional incremental improvements.

Planetary landings are tied to better and more variations of missions. Also it would be a boost to explorers and miners, if not immediately. I wouldn't be surprised to see Level 2 NPC'S in the 1.4 update, which would also add variations to missions.

First, reveal is highly likely expansion. But before going "core game is not yet finished" route, that expansion most likely will come at the end of the year, with 2 month beta period I suspect.

For the rest of the time we will see 1.4 with CQC and huge load of improvements. I hope for 1.5 too, but that might come together with expansion.

If reveal is not expansion, but somehow huge improvements for core gameplay (those tend to trick in gradually, but who knows), then I will be double happy.

So I think it's win win.

You may rest assured that you will not be forced to land on planets after the eventual planatery landing's release, just as I did not want CQC but I also won't be forced to play it. Actually, you're not even forced to have that planetary landing feature in your game, as it will be a paid expansion.

I agree with you, but I would already be happy if at least the worst bug, stutter, would be properly fixed. Worth a release with no new features.

So you basically named all contraversies which aren't exactly bugs but design decisions which you don't like - and FD has to redesign them because?

Or they better concentrate on all fronts - fixing bugs and designing and improving core features AND work on expansions?

You really think that Combat log off and Cheaters are "design decisions" and only i don't like it? I didn't say that they should stop work on PL landings or ST walking, Game core mechanic is a priority for me. And what i really like to see is a Server based game not P2P, if its possible ofc.

No, those are things that are dealt with, and I believe FD will find ways to better detect such behavior.

No servers for combat gameplay though, for many reasons.

If its not the return of the bobbleheads, i'm uninstalling the game, setting fire to my PC, and shoving my joystick where the sun don't shine! (underground!) :D

So basically you will celebrate it :D
